Rising majestically to 42 feet, the tallest wine rack in the world is an acrylic “cellar in the sky,” showcasing a stunning vertical display of fine wines. It features daring “Wine Angels” dressed in sleek black bodysuits and climbing gear, gracefully navigating the structure with agility and precision to serve discerning guests, creating a captivating blend of artistry and functionality.
Situated in Las Vegas, the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino elevated its opulence by installing the world’s tallest wine rack within Aureole, a restaurant inspired by New York chef Charlie Palmer, showcasing the city’s penchant for over-the-top luxury and innovative experiences.
Patrons access the restaurant through a stylish catwalk-style bridge and a spiral staircase encircling the wine tower, which stands prominently at the center of the 64-foot square room, serving as the visual centerpiece. Beyond its practical role in storing wine, the tower also functions as a captivating entertainment feature, enhancing the room’s ambiance and creating a memorable dining atmosphere.
This monumental structure must maintain its stunning appearance and stability, which accommodates the weight of approximately 16,000 bottles plus the “Wine Angels”, a true challenge for fabricator, Perry Youssefy, president of Crystal Craft (La Verne, CA).
“We needed to use a dense cell-cast acrylic material for this tremendous structure,” explained Youssefy.
“We chose CYRO Industries’ ACRYLITE® GP acrylic sheet for its lightweight, high-impact strength, excellent optical clarity, and its ability to withstand expansion and contraction due to the refrigerated sections of the tower.”
Impressive, but the world’s tallest wine rack doesn’t stand as tall next to the biggest wine collection in the world. The Mileștii Mici wine cellar holds almost two million bottles, earning recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest wine collection in the world by number of bottles.
