Winemaker’s assistant made the day, technically they’re not open over weekends, oops. Decent selection of easy drinking wines that can hold their own.

Must agree on the previous post, Dieter went out of his way to do a cellar tour and tasting.
    Great wines!

Wow, we were blown away my the trouble Helgard went to: cellar tour, barrel tasting – nothing was too much trouble. The wines are fantastic; a must visit!

Helgard a super star here. He is the assistant winemaker and gave us a lot of insight into the wine philosophy of Lynx. Great place to visit and fantastic wines.

If you’re looking for a personalised tasting at a small, boutique winery, go to Lynx. We spent hours there, tasting and chatting. It’s the kind of experience that makes the winelands so special.

I’ve had the pleasure of tasting wine at Lynx twice already (not bad for someone not based in the winelands!) and each time has been a pleasure. The small intimate experience allows the wine make, Dieter Sellmeyer, to give you attention and answer your specific questions about the wine. The family are hands on and friendly. The wine is great and I remain a firm fan!

“Lynx by Appointment only” – and that’s how it should stay. The best way to be introduced to this farm is the private cellar tour by none other than Dieter. Owner and winemaker extraordinaire: an engineer who, with his creative genius, and innocent, uninfluenced introduction to the industry was able to formulate and create wines which should, if you could, be hung in museums for everyone to admire.

Like any artist, this man has a passion for his art and this same passion is reflected in his wines. The cellar tour gave me an entirely new insight on wine making, especially for smaller, more boutique-style cellars. And being ‘boutique-style’ isn’t bad at all and one should not be fooled as the varieties are endless! The personal attention given to each wine is tasted and amplified in every glass and with every swallow (yes, I never spit).

After the tour we got to sit down and taste the wines and instead of giving us the rundown of what each wine ‘should’ taste like, we were left to make up our own minds. Here’s a bit of mine on my favourites: The Shiraz was rocking with flavour compared to the more loungy-style SMV which instead of hitting you with all the flavours at once, slowly introduced you to its complexity in layers of lasting joy. The Viognier (not my favourite variety) and most whites in my opinion are rushed and seems that they are made with no effort at all (MY OPINION). While at this farm you could taste the quality in every sip, which once again, shows what a little extra effort and dedication can do.

A little more effort on the rounding-off the ‘rough’ edges of the look of the farm and it could’ve scored a higher. This doesn’t take anything away from the man behind the grape or his fantastic wines though. A must visit!

PS: love the bottle’s branding as well!

I finally made it to Lynx and I can’t believe it took so long to visit them! What a cool place with fantastic wines and a great host, Dieter Sellmeyer. 12 years ago Dieter decided to try his hand at winemaking after years of being a engineer. Today he produce some of the best wines that I’ve tasted in the region and he never studied winemaking.

Dieter took us on a cellar tour and although I’ve been to a lot of cellars, I still learned a few interesting things. One can see that a lot of time, hard work and love goes into his wines.

We did the tasting after the cellar tour and I fell in love with almost every wine. The 2007 Shiraz and the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon are both to die for. I also loved the 2009 Viognier (R90) and the Vino Tinto 2008 at only R50. Then there was the 2008 SMV & the Grenach…..YUM!

Although this was my first visit to Lynx it will definitely not be my last. I’m going to drink all the wines that I’ve bought ASAP and race back to buy some more!

Uncork at Lynx was absolute fun. Not even the rain could dampen the festivities. The wine was excellent the Shiraz was something to experience.

Lovely Boutique winery with a hands on approach to wine making. The wine maker even opens his bottles with flare. These are wines that are finely crafted and absolutely delicious. No abrasive notes from any of their cultivars – melody in motion over the palate striking different notes as it flows. One of those wineries that one wants to keep all to oneself. I dont even want to mention the Viognier – sublime. And one of the most delicious Shiraz’ I have ever sampled.

Best step by step explanation of winemaking in very artisan cellar. Great wines too. Look out for their maiden Viognier – well worth a going just for that!

Lynx was an incredible experience. Its the way every wine tasting should be. You are tended to by a winemaker and walked through the whole winemaking process(literally) in a very friendly, informative and down-to-earth way. I’m so impressed. Asside from the very attractive assistant winemaker, the wines themselves are also delicious. Probably the best blanc de noir in SA, a knock-out Viognier, and one of the most sought after Shiraz in the Cape. I can’t wait to get back, hopefully before everything is sold out. 10 out 10 in my opinion.
