Excellent sauvignon blanc and perfect for drinking at the guest house at Zoetendal with stunning views. We were made to feel incredibly welcome at the tasting room thanks to Janine.

Called in just before lunchtime Saturday on one of my sojourns around the Overberg! Missed the entrance first time ,too busy enjoying the sweeping vistas to the Coast..! I was reliably informed that a few markers are going up.. Like a flag or a set of Barrels!
Janine is a very pleasant and well informed host and the wines proved very enjoyable as we looked over the soon to be stocked wetlands and river.
I particularly enjoyed the 2007 Shiraz(hints of the Fynbos here)and the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (You can almost smell the refreshing sea breezes) Also a bonus ,picked up a few 2008 Sauvignon Blanc for a special 29 rand tag.. excellent!
I noticed from the little dirt roads along the back of the Mountain protecting Napier that the Soil changes in structure at every interval.. I certainly believe this terroir gives the Elim wines a complexity of flavour.
Certainly won me over. I’d give top marks for achieving a ‘sense of place’
Ok,the Tasting area is in the process of development as the whole place is maturing it can only get better and better.
Can’t compliment Janine enough for her sense of humour and straight forward tasting without frills. Made everyone feel at home.
Added bonus make sure you check out L’agulhas where the Indian & Atlantic Oceans meet, have some fish and chips and remember to go see Bettie de Klerk at the Wine Boutique across the street for a fabulous tasting of all the Overberg wines! I reckon that it’s a real winner!

The one thing that makes all the elim wineries worth visiting is that they are actually excited and happy when students visit and the Wine makers and owners make special effort to share the wines with the us. Johan opened especially for us when we went to Zoetendal and he gave us a first class tasting.
If only all Wineries where like this more students would drink more wine and eventually buy more and visit more.
