The good thing about this winery is it is open longer hours than most on a Saturday and Sunday. Its open 10.30am – 4.30pm.
This is not much of a winery, and we heard that the grapes aren’t even locally grown, but come from Somerset West. I was not a fan of the wines here, nothing jumped out at me. You can check out my review on my blog at http://westerncapewineries.blogspot.com/2011/03/whalehaven-walker-bay.html
had ok service and yhe wines are average!
Their Pinot Noir and Merlot is good
was OK, the idiom range is good…doesn’t have the feel of a winery though..
Use to like there Idiom and then they changed the wine maker.
Not great.
The original wine that hooked me on Pinot Noir. Was very disappointed with how the wines had slipped since I last visited the place. Not what it used to be.
My favourite cheap wine is Whalehaven’s Old Harbour red. Such good quality for the price. And the Pinot Noir is one of the nicest in the valley.
The Idiom wines are great. The tasting room experience is a bit hit and and miss. We’ve had wonderful service and we’ve had the opposite.
above average wines. the idiom range makes for some interesting and unusual varieties.
they do have great staff and a welcoming wine maker
Bad smelling Pinotage, annoying “wine flies” at the counter and the most unfriendly host ever! Never to re-visit.
