Tell us about your experience at Villiera Wines
enjoyed my time here, some pretty good wines and at a good price as well. they also do these great evening game drives in summer and u do a wine tasting and have a meal with it as well. well worth it and its good to see how a vineyard is looking at more than just producing wines. very beautiful place to visit as well.
Great, awesome price-quality. I bought a couple of 05 Shiraz (outstanding vintage) for the price of the most recent vintage. Very good MCC.
Had a really warm friendly service with splendid tasting. Went on the early morning game drive and was amazed at this surprise that Villiera had to offer. Simon Grier took us on a 2 hour tour and shared his passion for his land, animals, environment and wine. This is a great find if you want to spend time looking at the game that’s at Villiera and for a bargain price. R150!! Best value you’ll get in the winelands and this includes tasting, game drive and optional cellar tour. Go Villiera go!
The tasting room still welcomes too many people – a literal busload this time – for the tasting experience to be anything other than perfunctory, almost brusque. That problem is exacerbated this time by the fact that some of the newer wines seem to be a little flat this year compared with the last two, especially the gewurztraminer. Higher end drops are still decent quality but a mite over-priced. Just pray you don’t go on a busy day.
Tradition Brut MCC is still outstanding
One of our Friday afternoon favourites! Got a private cellar tour once as well!
Had a great time at Villiera during the Stellenbosch Wine Festival. We received personal attention and even had the opportunity to taste the base wines of their bubbly. And their bubbly really got us bubbly! Friendly people and a great vibe. Love it!
Of the 5 farms visited during the Stellenbosch Wine Fest, this one was unanimously voted best by our group of 8 wine flies. It also seemed that they were the most prepared for the hordes that would stream through there later that day. We ended up having three bottles sparkly (two of them being the winning Brut Natural) for breakfast on the way to our next stop; Simonsig.
Had a fantastic experience tasting bubbly here on Saturday during the Stellenbosch Wine Festival. Very friendly and knowledgeable, live music and generally just a happy vibe. I’ll definitely return.
Nice wines good value for money and very well organised for bus loads of people.
Good MCC’s, shitty service
Jeff Grier’s wines from Domaine Grier, Roussillon, France are stunning. We also love the Brut Natural and drink it often.
Their French wines are by far the best on offer and you get to taste them! I have been there three times and I will keep on going back especially for the French…
What a great range of wine. You name it they’ve probably made it. They have some very interesting blends, both reds and whites. They also do cellar tours which are very informative and intimate. They also let you taste their French wine… the Domaine Grier, which is quite different to those produced here in SA. Great place!
Wow! So busy so early? We got to Villiera just after 10am on a Wednesday morning and there was about 40 people in and around the tasting room. No big surprise I guess, because the services was brilliant and the French wines scored a 10.
Although I’m a huge fan of bubbly, their Method Cap Classique did not knock my socks of, but the rest of the wines were delicious. I like the fact that one can taste some French wines there. My favourite: The 2006 Grenache @ R93.
Heidi was the perfect host, especially if you take their busy-ness in consideration.
We were last here a few years ago but their attitude was amazing. “Have a seat outside, here’s a bottle of x to taste, let us know when you’d like to try the next one”. No stingy little taster poured by some hovering assistant – what a pleasure!
Big wine selection here. There is wine for everyone. The french range Domaine Grier is rather dissapointing
