The only thing about this winery that impressed me at all, was the view and the quirky decor in the tasting room (all the chickens…). Most of the wines were oxidised, the tasting room lady had some parrot-rhymes that she recited without any knowledge behind what she was saying (pronounced Merlot as Mer-lit…) and they really could do with more signage along the way once you get to their property. Don’t think I’ll go back.

Finally managed to taste some wines. Sadly the Chardonnay I’d been trying to taste was sold out and as such none was available for tasting. Tried the Sauvignon Blanc even although I’m not a SB drinker, it was absolutely amazing. A beautiful light fruity wine that would go well with many dishes. Red blends were the best in my opinion. This vineyard is all about quality and not quantity so the wines are produced in limited quantities. I put my name down for 6 Chardonnay and the list was already almost full… R200 a bottle is not cheap either but what a wine from the previous time I had tasted it. Well worth it for the views and pleasant hostess.

The flagship Chardonnay is impressive – it’s easy to taste why previous vintages have won so many awards – but be prepared to buy a bottle if you want to taste it. Their regular range of whites are all very enjoyable. I was also very surprised at the quality of the rosé, which was told was produced as an experiment using left-over grapes. The staff are friendly, informative and attentive without being in your face.

Wonderful views, wonderful Chardonnay & if you play your cards right you just may coax a bottle of an older vintage from the very engaging tasting room manageress.

Sadly we arrived just as the tasting closed and as such missed an opportunity. The drive is well off the beaten track but offers spectacular views as you travel down long single land tar roads up to the top of the hill where the farm is situated. From experience the Uva Mira Chardonnay is one of the finest available!

wow! still one of my fave wineries! fantastic service, even better wines (especially the Chardonnay..) and will keep on coming back to this one. beautiful views as well! I will gladly buy their wines as long as I have the cash flow to support my wine habit :p
