Modern tasting room, very busy yet very accommodating. The staff were very helpful and there was a good rapport

The Deli-Cat-Essen is my favourite breakfast spot in Cape Town (and possibly the world), mainly because I can take my kids and not have to compromise luxury and quality to do so. But when the kids are away, there’s the tasting room….

Been there on two occasions for tasting, both times the staff were friendly, approachable and knowledgable. Lovely reds, and a great brandy. Didn’t mind sampling the olives either!

Lovely Tasting room. Service needs to be improved, they were not interested at all. Taste some olives with your wine and you must try the Noble Late Harvest, DELICIOUS!

I really wanted to see the wine art at Tokara so i finally made my first visit to the farm. The art simply makes use of canvas & wine which I think incredible. It is very appealing & so is Tokara. I felt the farm warm & friendly. The deli was a perfect place for a casual well priced lunch & child friendly. The service was great & I’d definitely recommend it.

I agree with Jacques, this is a cold and unfriendly estate. I thought the wines were over-rated too.

I have never felt so unwelcome in a tasting room or restaurant…we just turned around and walked out…but we did enjoy the brandy…gotta give them that

No expenses spared but they’ve lost some soul. The wines are GREAT. Service was absent-minded and not well-informed at all. A bit of a tourist trap. Restaurant is fabulous though.

This was where I first learned to enjoy red wine. Very modern architecture, great view, cozy and warm fireplace in winter. Nice olive oil.

Tokara really impressed me. We first stopped at the Delicatessen which looks like a stunning lunch option that I plan to try out very soon. Then we headed to the wine tasting area (they are separated by a short drive).

The wine tasting area is beautiful. A large lounge with the wine tasting section to the one side, a circle of big comfortable chairs in the middle and a nice balcony with tables and chairs. The views at Tokara are incredible with rolling hills of vines and olive groves.

I really enjoyed the wines and the olives (I also tasted the excellent olive oils at the delicatessen). The person that assisted me was helpful when I asked her some questions. It was very busy so luckily we weren’t in a hurry.

I will definitely recommend this place. I have also eaten at the Tokara restaurant and while it is a bit pricey it is pleasant and has a superb view.

I must be honest, I wasn’t crazy about this farm at all. The farm itself is stunning, the views, etc. and maybe we were just there on the wrong day or I expected too much since a friend that referred me raved about it so much, but the service was horiffic! The young servers were so busy chatting and planning their “jol” of that night that they hardly noticed us when we walked in, and even if they did see us standing there waiting to taste the wines, they couldn’t have cared less! In fact, we got the idea they really wished we would just leave so they could have their little discussion in peace. So you could just imagine that we were so irritated by the time we did actually get served and tasted the wines that it was just really not nice. I would so much rather pay for wine tasting and get good service than go out of my way to a place that I don’t pay to taste but get treated so badly. We never bought one single bottle here. Pity the service at Tokara left such a bad taste in our mouths, that we couldn’t even enjoy the wines. Oh well, I guess you can’t win ‘em all!

So now i’ve finally been to Tokara, an amazing sight to start off with, first thing you have to notice when parking the car….. the Views are stunning, all around and the Architecture is very well done indeed when walking up into the Venue which is not over done at all, just very good!
moving onto the wines now, the Zondernaam Sauvignon blanc is a very good one, very refreshing and it went done well with the view in front of me, the other wine which stood out a lot was the Zondernaam Chardonnay, very lemony and zesty, beautifully made as well! onto the reds the Shiraz 2007 was very juicy and easy going.with some typical characters to it!
Tokara is really a lovely place to go and another visit sometimes will be on my list

Tokara is a lovely farm, but I think I’ve been put off it by the constant, “Hey its Friday, lets go wine tasting!” followed by a million of us students heading there to consume as much as the free tasting allows. However, drunk students aside, Tokara’s range of wine is really reasonable and accessible and offers some great stuff. The Zondernaam range is really worth a taste and is pretty affordable. Accompanied by some beautiful views, the tasting room has a great vibe about it. Do yourself a favour and pay the extra R5 for a taste of the brandy. Glorious!

Nice farm with great views. Wines are very good although slightly expensive. Our server was not very informative though

Tokara is by far one of the most exceptional wine estates in South Africa – just full blown awesomeness from the time you see the estate till you leave.

Fireplace is really cosy in winter. Ask to taste some olives with your wine – yumm.
Wines great – but a must to end off with is the Noble Late harvest – exceptional.

The views are fabulous especially on a clear day, roaring fire in July was fabulous, free tasting a bargain! Their wines are excellent as are their Olive Oils! Wish the place was mine!

Tokara’s a very modern winery. I love the cosy feel. The fireplace is great and the view is even better. I like the chocolates and olives also. The HUGE clock gives the place a very modern feel. It’s also great to be able to look out onto the cellar through the big windows.
Awesome place! The fact that tasting is free is great. We go there at least twice a year, and buy at least one bottle every time we go. Ooh, almost forgot… the brandy’s breathtaking, literally and figuratively.

This is a gorgeous place! What more can I say, views, architecture, wine, art… stunning!

Beautiful view, people and wine

I loved Tokara back when I was still a student. The fact that you can get free wine tasting is always appealing.
These days it is as much of a pleasure, and this time I can actually buy some wine too. There are a few things that is great about Tokara (besides the wine), and that is the view, the fireplace and the olives.
Last time i was there, it was too busy for my taste, but that is hardly a problem.
Visit it during the mornings or in the week when the students are still asleep.

This is one of my favourite estates as it has so much to offer. This is a relatively new range of wines as they were previously supplying grapes to other farms. Their wines are tasty and their Brandy is one of the best South African brandies. Also there is a contemporary restaurant with new interpretations of traditional dishes. I have visited here in summer and winter and both have a great atmosphere, especially the huge fireplace. It is a good contrast to some of the other traditional farms in the area.

Nice place to sit and have a quality bottel of wine at, staff friendly and professional – Recomended.

In the mood to meet some foreigners? Tokara is the spot then!They are always busy, always friendly and that view! With high-tech architecture and some great art pieces it’s no wonder that it’s a tourist magnet.

The wines are reasonably priced, but a bit pricey for what you get. All in all, they have good service, great scenery and an amazing restaurant to top it all.

We were staying just down the road from here and I had tried the wines at home in the UK. We wanted to visit the restaurant but it was shut over the Christmas and New Year holidays, which seemed a bit strange. Amazing views down to Table Mountain in the distance. They are also building a new tasting / olive tasting facility. Good selection of wines to taste. My favourites were their Walker Bay Sauvignon and the Tokara red. Excellent potstill brandy, which found its way home to the UK!
