We decided to visit The Winery of Good Hope on the spur of a moment and phoned them a hour before the time to make an appointment. On arrival we were welcomed by the winemaker Jacques de Klerk and started of our tasting adventure with a joyride on the back of his bakkie. I must say that out of all the farms I’ve been to, this was the first time that the winemaker shows me the vineyard. It made for a memorable moment.

We returned to the winery and Jacques introduced us to a charming Frenchman from Rhone, Edouard Labeye, who heads-up the wine making team. As we walked through the cellar Jacques kept our glasses full with tank samples and by the time we got back to the tasting room we were very happy chappies.

Jacques and Edouard introduced us to the various ranges of wine that they make. It’s quite a big selection and some of my favourites was the Vinum Chenin Blanc 2008 (R65), The Land of Hope Chenin Blanc 2008 (R125), the Black Rock White Blend and the Radford Dale Shiraz 2006. Great wines made with pride and passion!

We arrived at the farm just before 4pm that Monday afternoon and ended up leaving after 8pm. We had one hell of a good time tasting mind blowing wines in the company of truly amazing people.

Very rare to come across a winery that has such exceptional wines across the whole range. the wine maker jacques de klerk is very passionate about his wine and all is revealled when yo taste the wine. you forget about the office tasting room and the fact that there is not much of a view. It would get 10 out of 10.
