… Just adding to Reika’s experience, they had very few wines of their range for tasting. If we can’t taste their wines at their tasting room, where else are you supposed to experience them?

Discoverer Winefly - 93 farms visited and 27 reviewed.

My first FairTrade wine farm I visited, I heard from someone that Thandi was the best example of FairTrade winery in South Africa, when i visited it was a big disappointment. After visiting handful of nice, beautiful, and quality wineries in Hermanus, when we walked into the tasting room of Thandi the place was not well kept nor had any character. The lady who gave us tasting was not knowledgeable about FairTrade wines, she could not answer most of the questions I had. Wines were not good, nothing stood out for me. Seems like they export majority of their wines, so they did not care to attract the South African market. (Thandi was not even listed on the Overberg Wine 2011 booklet) Maybe from FairTrade perspective they are doing great and I have no criticism, but looking at the quality of the farm, wines, and services, in my opinion it was not impressive.

A BEE farm who has 140 share holders, all actively working on the farm.

We decided to line our stomachs here and tasted the wines along with the food. Very easy drinking wines that lacks a bit of character, but it’s not undrinkable. Slightly overpriced for what you get.

The lady who helped us (Johanna) was friendly and the food was good value for money.
