Tell us about your experience at Spookfontein
Made an appointment when we where 5 minutes away from the under construction tasting room and cellar and fortunately Craig was looking for an excuse to get away from doing admin.
He first took us through his elemental bob range and then there after barrells of spookfontein wines
Some very exciting wines when they are finally ready and the merlot was stand out.
It’s worth driving up the treacherous road to taste.
Considering we made the appointment when we were only five minutes away from the farm, Craig pulled out all the stops for us! We almost missed the turn off into the farm though as the road construction has them using a terribly tiny and nonchalant sign. We only went through the barrels where he explained his entire philosophy. His Cab Franc, Pinot Noir, Grenache and Pinot Blanc with skin contact were particularly interesting. Once the tasting room is completed it’s going to be a stunning place to visit. All round it was informative and entertaining experience, highly recommended!
thanks Craig for an awesome experience, although I doubt if you have time for surfing on the internet considering the hands-on approach you use!
We where a bit early so we drove past and went to Mount Babylon, with the hope that they would be there.
Returned to Spookfontein just after 12:30 and we where welcomed to the cellar by Craig who showed us around and started a real enjoyable tasting.
The Bordeaux Blend is good value for money. We had a barrel tasting of 2010 Shiraz – I think this is going to be a very gooood Shiraz and we’ll have to wait for it in anticipation.
Packaging is completely in line with the “Spook” name – Thick wax dripping from the bottle neck.
