Not the most impressive estate or wine, but a really good experience!!! Such good service!!!
Arrived as it started raining – inside was a nice fire burning and interesting wines and stories.
I like the experience at this winery, but didn’t think the wines were anything to rave about. Unfortunately I didn’t write down the four wines we were given to try. All I remember is we had two whites which I think were sauvignon blanc, and two reds, which were pinotage if I am correct. You can check out my review on my wine blog: http://westerncapewineries.blogspot.com/2011/03/southern-right-walker-bay.html
With two exceptional wines, it’s well worth popping into Southern Right. Both are cool climate, and I have to say, although neither are from my favourite grape they are both probably worth their price-tag, if not more in the case of the Pinotage!
Also – their olive oil is pretty good, too.
one of my fav pinotages, and the 2004 sav blanc is quit an experience…also very interesting story of how it was cellared…
We had a vertical tasting of S Blanc and Pinotage on Thursday evening. We saw one of the S Blanc bottles that was taken from the sea, some will be available at Bintang’s Cave during the Whale Festival. would be interesting to taste the difference between a cellar aged and sea aged bottle. The 2007 Pinotage had a lot of Shiraz on the nose? Only me?
The warm fireplace and a friendly lady welcomed us. They only have 2 wines, a Pinotage and a Sauvignon Blanc.
There’s a cool story surrounding their 2004 Sauvignon Blanc. They left 50 bottles under water in the Hermanus Harbour for 4 years. They only pulled it up recently and opened some bottles of which only one got some water. The bottles are complete covered with sea stuff/creatures. Definitely something different and memorable. The wines will be available at certain restaurants in Hermanus.
The pinotage is standout here and yes cool climate can produce some good stuff a little over oaked but definately the best of the lot
Beautiful winery and super enthusiastic attendant…wines are expensive but quite well made, not my personal taste though.
Nice tasting with 2 lovely wines. Not usually a cool-climate Pinotage fan but their’s certainly hit the mark for me.
Had a lovely experience here, even though I am not a fan of either Pinotage nor Sauvignon Blanc. Will go back any time.
