Tell us about your experience at Seidelberg Wine Estate
Gorgeous views and cool under the well established oak trees.
Brilliant views. Taste outside if possible rather than inside and treat yourself to a platter from the deli. Delish. Service was truly great at our table.
Ive been here so many times. This is the one Estate where we just hang… and when I say hang I meen, come in the moring and stay the whole day and just add to our party , will be going back very soon. Why…???? Because we can!!!
Revisited Seidelberg just after 9am on a rainy Saturday morning. My friend who organised the trip still phoned them to find out if they are open so early on which they replied yes. When we arrived at the tasting room however the staff looked confused and informed us that they only open at 10am. A lady called Rita came to our rescue and said that it’s fine and that she will conduct our tasting.
She was friendly and well informed on the wines we tasted. We did however all had to taste the same 6 wines, because that’s the rule if your in a group of 6 or more and our group consisted out of 6. A bit limiting I’d say and it’s not as if the service was that much faster considering the fact that we all tasted from the same bottle.
The wines, well, maybe it was our freshly cleaned toothpaste palates, but they did not impressed. We tasted the MCC, which I felt was way overpriced if you compare it to other MCC’s that retails at R120 and less. The viognier was a definite spit. The reserve range was not bad, but nothing really grabbed me.
Beautiful setting & facilities. Wine disappointing & service attitude friendly but oh-so rigid.
Pretty disappointed with service attitude and wine. Wines decidedly mediocre. Beautiful setting however.
Beautiful view, wines are OK, but not great.
Great place on a sunny day to purhase a bottle and enjoy it outside on the grass. One of the best views in the Western Cape. Good wines too.
Will go back for the wines we did not taste. Bought a bottle of Cecilia, enjoyed! Beautifull setting!!! the background music by a guitarist was very relaxing.
Very good bubbly and very special view.
I visited Seidelberg twice and they disappointed me on both occasions, although they have good wine. I find it always overcrowded and everything takes forever. Once we had to eat our platter without any cutlery or plates.
Birthday at Seidelberg on Saturday!!
I was excited when my friend and wineparter in crime sent me this text last week.
Birthdayparties are always a good opportunity for me as a visitor of your lovely country to meet some new people and you can never say no if they are held at a beautiful wine estate.
We drove up through the vineyards and it soon became clear that this was going to be one for the books. Strange Saturnus-like ring clothclouds on The Mountain, wonderful view on the Paarl valley and a setting sun. The tasting room was blinking at us but one needs to set his priorities.
Offcourse my priority was to open a bottle of the Seidelberg 100% Chard MCC on the grassland asap!
We had dinner on the tables outside the restaurant and I enjoyed the Pinotage and the Un Deux Trois blend. The food was a bit so-so but I forgot soon because of the ambiance.
On fridays you can open a bottle on the grassland as they stay open late for tastings and winesales.
The lady told us it can get very crowded, but it seems worth checking out to me.
The 2009 Chenin Blanc packed in my suitcase was a good one, a dash of sweetness, very fruity and explosive.
I love love love Seidelberg, the view is spectacular, the glass blowing very interesting, the restaurant outside with the trees and of course the lovable four legged friends that’s always running around there and of course the Merlot is to die for.
Beautiful view of mountains around the area on a clear day their cellar is equally beautifull. Very relaxed atmosphere extremely inviting and so are the wines. Just the MCC is questionable Our host Bettina who’s a German intern knew little about the wine other than what she was told to say but she had only been there for 3 days. She was friendly tho
The wooded Chardonnay and glass works stand out the most for me!
This wine farm’s beautiful setting sets the scene for a day’s outing. We were welcomed by the friendly bouvier des flandres (my favourite breed) and then did a tour of the glass blowing factory, wine farm and tasting both in the tasting area and out on the lawns with the stunning views proving a distraction for the wines themselves. We finally adjourned to the Cape Malay Restaurant and more wine and left satiated and replete after a wonderful day out.
great overall wine farm experience (read lots to do)
Seidelberg is by far my favourite!!! Very relaxing, a great view, friendly staff and good Sparkling Wines! What more can one ask for!!!
A very chilled out place to visit, nice to sit on the lawn with the amazing views and have waiters bring the tasting out to you. Would love to go back.
Seidelberg… good memories! I’ve been to Seidelberg quite a few times with friends and we always enjoy it. It’s definitely our favourite Sunday afternoon spot in the summer – great views!
I’d been out to Seidelberg a couple of years ago while I was doing some touring in the Paarl winelands area for an online travel guide I was working on. When a friend was over from Canada recently I thought it would be the perfect time to revisit. Paarl is something different to the usual Stellenbosch/Franschhoek wine routes which seem to be more popular with foreign visitors.
It was a beautiful day weather-wise which allowed us to take full advantage of the magnificent setting of this estate. The views across the vineyards all the way to Table Mountain in the distance are quite phenomenal.
Unfortunately didn’t have time to do a tasting as we’d dawdled getting there. We ate at the restaurant, De Leuwen Jagt, and were thoroughly impressed. The menu features a number of traditional dishes which are were a perfect introduction to Cape Malay cooking for my foreign guest, and are wonderfully warming on a clear winter’s day. The food was beautifully paired with wine suggestions from the menu.
I definitely plan to go back to do a proper tasting soon. I imagine the rolling lawns would be a wonderful spot to enjoy a glass or two in the summertime.
The third and second last stop on our tour of the Paarl region, we took a long straight road, past the vineyards and up to the main building where the tasting room where and a welcoming committee of K9’s.
This farm offers a variety of wines, two pages long. Confusion struck, where to start and what to taste (R15 for 6 varieties)!! They also bottle under two names: Seidelberg and De Leuwen Jacht (the first being the more ‘prestigious’ label). The Roland’s Reserve Merlot stood out the most. Absolutely loved it! And the Roland’s Reserve Syrah is, according to me, what a Syrah should taste like.
Our ‘Lady of Vino’ was young, blonde (sorry, didn’t get the name) and told us stories of ghosts and urban legends. A pleasant tasting in a brick engulfed room with chandeliers and a lazy dog hiding from the winter rains.
I would have loved to try out some glass blowing, but the words ‘tour group of 80 arriving shortly’ had us leaving in a cloud of dust.
The last stop of the day was Noble Hill, and my-oh-my, we really saved the best for last . . . !!!
Went back for a official wine tasting on Saturday. Our host (forgot her name) was so sweet, pretty and friendly, even the gay boy next to me was drooling.
I only tasted from their Reserve range and all the wines were fab! Personal favourite was the Pinotage. They have a huge variety in wines and they cater for every pocket, which I liked.
nice setting and views, wines average and its always too crowded
Just as I remembered it from my last visit: Lovely!! With breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg mountain range it’s a place to visit at least once in a lifetime.
Seidelberg has a beautiful underground cellar, where one can taste some of their award winning wines. We did not do a tasting this time around, but opt to enjoy some bubbly on the outside terrace. The cheese platters on offer looked amazing and it’s definitely a place to visit for some Sunday lunch. They even have live music on Fridays from 17:30 to 20:00. Will bring the ladies for a girls night out some time!
Have been there many times, and must say always a great experiance, awesome views. The wines are flavourfull, but nothing that blew me away. My fiance loves the sparkling wine, so a defnite return to Seidelberg for me.
One of the most stunning places for wine tasting! Love the cellardoor and very friendly service even when they were packed out on the lawn!!
Great for chilaxing with friends and something to wet the pallet… Great views! Perfect for a sunny summers day!
So wanna go back for some lunch!
