Great wine, great experience! One of my favorites! Pinitage!
During our winter visit to Tulbagh we stayed at Rijks Country House for the weekend. We decided to pop around to the tasting room on the Saturday morning and was lucky enough to find their winemaker Pierre Wahl behind the counter. The tasting room was pretty full but Pierre manage to keep everyone’s glasses full and shared the farm’s history and wine making techniques with ease. Their range of wines are truly amazing and the prices extremely reasonable if you compare it to the quality in your glass. Their 2006 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay was on special and we picked up a case for R60 a bottle (normally R100) It’s such a delightful wine and we left the winery with a big smile on the face. The prettiest winery, no wonder it’s such a gorgeous wedding venue. As far as wine goes I particularly liked their Pinotage.
Our host had to split her attention to three different groups of people. Neither of us felt left out. Good tasting
Their pinotage is just bloody amazing
some lovely value for money surprises, I always thought they only had highly priced stuff…cant wait to drink the rijk estate syrah 2007 i bought,,,beautiful chenin
Had a great tasting lead by quite a character who made it a great tasting for us. Walked away hooked on their chardonnay. A really beautiful wine.
Love their wines and the tasting staff are very friendly and helpful!
Rijks is an elegant farm, and we felt a little intimidated during the tasting. It’s quite formal and not as relaxed as the other Tulbagh farms. The wines are exeptional though, and if you can catch the winemaker he is very friendly and easy to talk to about his wines.
The wines (that we could taste) are great, especially the whites. Would have bought more wine of I could actually taste is beforehand! Tasting room seriously old school and boring – not welcoming at all. Pam assisted us, she was friendly and professional.
Excellent wines, but irritating that you cannot taste the reserve range. When will farms learn that you cannot be expected to part with two hundred odd rand for a bottle of wine if you cannot taste it first! Tasting room lady – Pam – good at what she does. Tasting room a bit cold however.
I love the wines here. Really like their Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Savignon, and Fascination.
The Lady at the tasting office was really friendly and helpful. I think that the pricing of their wines a good representation of the quality of the wine.
nice to visit the source of all the wines I’ve enjoyed over the years. I’ll still need to save a bit for next time though…
The wines are impressive but I can’t say the same thing about the host we had to serve us. The wine that was made for the Cape Winemakers Guild auction is a Chenin Semillon blend 2007 and sadly not for sale.
some lovely wines appeared to me when tasting here and all of them are of good quality! we went here on a great sunny day which it all the more worthwhile! the tasting venue was quite an attractive sight yet very simplistic!
Good table wines but overpriced in comparison to the other wines in the area.
simple venue which is enhanced by good wines.
