Tell us about your experience at Noble Hill Wine Estate
Had a great birthday lunch there with friends , excellent food and the Merlot is stunning , fantastic hospitality by the owner
We had a great tasting (thanks for the hospitality, Andreas!) – Great wines but we absolutely love the Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. We returned the next weekend with friends to try out the restaurant – superb food, decor and service!!
Helga thanks for your kind words! In Johannesburg our olive oils are available at the Tapende olive shop: http://www.tapenade.co.za/. Hope to see you again soon!
What a “wow” experience! Great wine, food, setting and excellent company! Back in Gauteng, long after we finised the wine, we are keeping the Noble hill flame going by using the olive oil!
We will be back for more!
Excellent blends!
Great place, nice setting and great wines…never knew about the picnic spots, will be back!
We came for a picnic with our 1 year old son. What a stunning venue. Picnic baskets were good value for money, there was more than enough food and we even took some home. The changing facilities for babies were fantastic, even offering nappies, wet wipes and cream!!! What a nice surprise! Staff was very friendly and helpful! We had a great time.
Great Food… Great Wine.. A must to visit
Noble Hill is one of my favourite farms and never disappoints. All the wines are of an exceptional quality particularly the 2010 Chardonnay and the 1674 Blend. However, the cherry on the top is having a meal at Cosecha. Not only is the setting very romantic, but the food is definitely the best mexican cuisine that I’ve had in South Africa.
Great personal experience, loved the tastings stunning setting coming back for a picnic in summer
Wood on the Merlot exceptional. Good Bordeaux.
Jeanine, thanks for your message: I am sorry that we weren’t able to accomodate your desire to fish in our dam. Fishing is only available with an advance reservation, and I wish that our staff had explained this to you in a more thoughtful manner. Please accept my apologies for this misunderstanding and we will ensure through staff training that our fishing policy is communicated to guests in a clearer, more transparent, and more accommodating way in the future.
What an unfortunate experience yesterday! Friends took us for our first visit to fish & picnic? Oh well no picnic or fishing – could still understood though none stated on website regarding pre-bookings and regulations regarding fishing? – then maybe taste some wine buy some wine sit under the trees nope nope nope! Message brought over by poor waitress was a message from the owner ” still nope nope nope! What happened to exceeding the customers expectation? We did not expect much – maybe just a little ‘how can we accomodate you since you have driven all the way to come and visit?
The Mexican food at Cosecha Restaurant was the best and most authentic I’ve had in South Africa. The service was a bit patchy but the staff were friendly.
The 2010 Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc were very drinkable, as was the 1674 Estate Blend.
I liked that the manager was so attached to the Estate; he was able to point out the vines where the grapes had come from on the farm, talk about the soil, and explain how it affected the wine. It was clear that he loves the place, what he does, and takes pride in ensuring that is guests enjoy their visit and the wine.
good value for money and excellent restaurant
Noble Hill is fantastic value for your money, the food is great and they have one of the very few sauvignon blancs that I enjoy drinking. Well worth a try!
Oh, and I forgot to mention – possibly one of the best priced restaurant menus I have seen in Cape Town!!!! Best mexican food at excellent affordable prices. Let me give you an example – 5 adults – starters and mains and 2 bottles of Sauv Blanc = R100 per person! Where else I ask you????
This is my NEW Favourite wine farm! I can’t get enough of their wine, food, friendly staff and awesome setting! In 4 weeks – we been there 4 times……. And I want to go back for more! I love this farm and I recommend the wine and food and family friendly restaurant to everyone! See you soon Noble Hill and Cosecha
I loved the restaurant – it was so nice and different from very traditional farms. The tasting room was also so comfortable and cool on such a hot day!
What a beautiful day! The most amazing relaxed and bespoke surroundings with glorious wine and sumptuous food! The entire family had a wonderful day! Thank you Lestia, JP and Kathleen! We will be back!
Lovely farm! great wine. And the most friendliest people, and might I add that the food at the restuarant is absolutely devine!!!!Keep it up Noble Hill
dis ‘n pragtige plaas, met baie vriendelike personeel, selfs die Eienaar het met ons kom gesels..die wyn is ook heerlik. die Cab was my gunsteling. defnitief een van my nuwe gunsteling plekke..
We had lunch twice as well as a picnic (Valentine -2011) at Noble Hill. Beautful venue and fantastic food!! Regular buyer of wine & olive oil and will always return for more…
We were sent to Noble Hill by a local from Cape Town, who told us we HAD to have lunch there accompanied by the Sauv Blanc. Local referrals are always to be trusted, and Noble Hill did not disappoint. The beautiful property had a laid back breezy southern California feel to it, lunch was delicious, staff was great, and the wines were excellent. We bought several bottles and I don’t think any made it home with us. We did not want to leave. Thank you to Kristopher & JP for a wonderful afternoon. No spitting here!!
My wife and I are both from California and Mexican food is a staple of our diet. Having lived in Cape Town for the past 4+ years we’ve tried every sad attempt at Mexican cusine here in Cape Town. Noble Hill is by far the best Mexican cusine you can find anywhere in Cape Town. While we came for the food originally we’ve found so much to love about the wine farm itself. The staff is exceptional, the wines are very nice, and the grounds are imaculate, and it’s very family friendly. I really can’t say enough good things about Noble Hill!
WOW! My favorite so far! The tasting by the picnic area was sooo awesome! They have great wines on offer, I loved the Sauv blanc, and that 1674……… Amazingly YUMM!!!!!! I can’t wait to come back!!
Such a friendly wine estate and the staff were so accommodating. It really felt like everyone was so involved and enthusiastic about their wines, food and estate. It rubbed off on me. Could easily have spent the day working my way through their delicious menu.
Fabulous winery. Kris is a wonderful host and the wine is absolutely delicious. I bought two bottles to take back with me to the states. The vineyard itself is gorgeous, and I too loved the olive oil in addition to the wines themselves. The 1674 and Sauvignon Blanc are amazing!!
I’m not big on wine, but I loved the Sauvignon Blanc. I bought a bottle back to NY for myself and my roommate. The olive oil is also amazing. Can’t wait to purchase Noble Hill in NY.
I visited Noble Hill with four other friends. I had the best experience at the vineyard. I am a huge fan of the Sauvignon Blanc and 1674!
I recently had my first experience with South African vineyards and Noble Hill was the perfect end to a great day of tasting. The farm itself is stunningly beautiful, the wines and olive oil at the top of their class and, of course, there is no better host than Kris to complete the experience. I’m not generally a white wine drinker but the Sauvignon Blanc here changed my mind. My friends and I also all came away with bottles of the 1674. Looking forward to finding Noble Hill on the shelves in New York!
I am not a big wine drinker but when I tried the chardonnay and sauvignon blanc here I thought I might become addicted. The winery is also incredibly beautiful and all of the staff were extremely kind.
Alex, I am truly sorry you didn’t have a better time. I have great respect for Dombeya and have been happy to have been represented in Cape Town together until last year. Riane and I have tasted each other’s wines together on several occasions and I’ve always learned a lot from the experience. We try hard to make everybody happy at Noble Hill, as I hope you’ll see from the other comments on this page. I must respectfully disagree with your characterization of our wines. To make a blanket statement about a specific technical fault on a whole range of wines from different vineyards, different vintages, and with different oak regimes is outlandish. I hope you’ll come back sometime; I’d be happy to taste the wines with you and Bernard and discuss your opinions about the specific characteristics of each. Please feel free to e-mail me at kristopher@noblehill.com
Fantastic breakfast at the restaurant, beautiful! The staff were friendly and the food great with extra special attention to detail. The wine tasting were very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Didn’t rate this place, found the wines disappointing with Brett on the reds and a watery Sauvignon blanc. The restaurant was overpriced and the food was presented in a very unappetizing way….
Decided to pop in as we always seem to drive past this wine estate and we had an excellent wine tasting experience and we will be back to try the restaurant.
My find of the year (so far)…fabulous restaurant on a beautiful estate. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Wines are good to excellent. They have olive oil too! Do NOT miss visiting this gem.
Had an amazing lunch at the restaurant and an equally impressive tasting experience. Do yourself a favour and have lunch there and try the small plates. The flavours will blow you away.
[...] most active winery on Spit or Swallow this week was Noble Hill. The reason for this might be the fact that they encourage their visitors to rate and review them [...]
So friendly and beautiful… enjoyed every moment
I was most impresed by the friendliness and the vast amount of knowledge displayed by the staff in the wine tasting centre. I found the tasting room itself to be imaculately decorated and I loved the way from inside the room through the archway out onto the fields/garden… in one word: WOW!!!!
I cannot single out one red wine as my favourite as all were absolutely scrumptious. Kudo’s to the owners/winemaker/staff… all contributed to a wonderful experience. i’ll definately be back soon!
Spectacular grounds and delicious wines (the Shiraz-Mourvedre was my favorite). A perfect place to spend a few hours soaking up the sun and enjoying life. The food at Cosecha is delicious (fresh peppers come from meters away) – come for a brunch of huevos rancheros.
Can’t wait for the Dear Leader to be ready!
Beautiful grounds, great food at cosecha. 1674 is not to be missed, and the Viognier opened my eyes to the possibilities of a whole new varietal.
Always amazing…love to take guests. The best viognier….service and stunning food!!
Jonathan, thanks for your review and glad that you enjoyed your lunch! Sorry to hear that the road noise was noticeable during your visit. I hope you’ll come back in spring or summer as the trees and vines mitigate this noise in a big way.
Enjoyed a lovely lunch at Noble Hill on Sunday. Interesting to have a “Mexican” menu at a winefarm, but I really enjoyed it. The food was great and the bottle of Sav Blanc that we enjoyed was equally delicious.
My only (minor) criticism would be that it’s a bit of a pity about the road noise at the restaurant, although I am sure that when it’s busier inside, it’s probably not as audible.
This is where we started the day! What a mistake! We should have ended our day here. Brilliant service – I cannot remember the last time I laughed so much! The wine was quite brilliant, if a bit on the expensive side…but I will pay with a smile for quality. The local olive oil was also a great surprise!
Visited on a scorching 44C afternoon so appreciated the mist coolers on the stylish lounge-style patio at the restaurant. Had a super lunch, charming, well-trained staff. Unfortunately we couldn’t linger but we’ll definitely go back for a more leisurely visit.
So the last stop of the day was Noble Hills and yes it was a great day to end off, the gardens being impressive, the venue being ideal and a lovely ambiance around you.. the tasting venue was impressive, simple but different and elegant with a very friendly host from the USA.
heading onto the wines, well we tasted 5 and i wish i could have bought all 5 but in the end i did buy the Merlot 2006, which was impressive by the way!
oh and i did have a quick taste of the garlic olive oil and it did please!!!!
Loved their wines, very clued up hostess. Just a beautiful estate!
A hidden gem, tucked between Kanonkop and Paarl Mountain, Noble Hill produces single-vineyard estate wines, made to reflect the soil, climate and geology of the Simonsberg area. Using beetles and ducks for pest control instead of chemicals, and nitrogen-enriching cover crops instead of fertilizer, the result is a sustainable ecosystem that supports diverse flora and fauna.

My first visit to Noble Hill, and what a surprise. The Merlot 2005 was really good and we returned later to have lunch at the lovely Cosecha restaraunt – so we could have a bottle of Merlot to ourselves. A definte swallow!
The last stop of the day was Noble Hill, and my-oh-my, we really saved the best for last . . . !!! I gave this farm a 10 as it sets the standard of what the industry (wine farms) needs to strive for in the service they offer to the passer through. I’m from the hospitality industry and was thinking of sending some of our staff here.
The farm’s garden was neatly and superbly kept, the tasting room nicely laid out and ambient, and the ‘Gentleman of Vino’ (Chris?) . . . awesome, a true host!
I enjoyed all their red wines and even some of their whites but what stuck with me the most was the experience and that is what a trip/tour through the winelands are all about. We even got to learn (Education Bonus) of the 6th sense of Umami (I call it the braai sense) look it up on Wikipedia or visit the farm instead, you will not be disappointed.
Big up to Kris for being the perfect host once again! I fell in love with the wines and the place, all over again.
It was extremely difficult to decided which wines to buy this time around. They were all great and affordable, but with a swiped through credit card, I had to make a decision. I decided on: The Noble Hill Viognier 2007, Noble Hill “1674″ 2005 and the Noble Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. I must say, I was super happy when I arrived home to still find a 2005 Merlot in my collection. I opened it immediately in celebration.
Love the packaging of their wines as well. It looks better than any Louis Vuitton.
very nice setting, lovely dam, grass, restaurant. great wine, well priced,
the new american owners have drastically improved the place. hope they don’t make it too flashy their wines are still great hope they don’t change too much either
What an absolutely breathtaking Wine Estate! Big trees, green lawns, comfy coaches, great wine, what more can one ask for?
Our host Christopher was very friendly and informative and made us feel right at home. The wine was fantastic and reasonably priced. They offer picnic baskets which one can enjoy on the lawn or in the garden and it looks very appealing. I’m so gonna go back to visit their Cosecha Restaurant with a Latin inspired menu. Where in South Africa have you ever heard of a breakfast that consist out of “crisp corn tortillas topped with beans, fried eggs, shredded sharp cheddar, salsa, sour cream and guacamole”? yummmmmy!!!!!
See you guys soon!
I was the one one who enjoyed the fantastic lunch with Madam Dewyn and thought the overall experience was comforting and peaceful. It makes you feel like you never want to leave. I’m pretty sure the restaurant had a Mexican theme tho but none the less I highly recommend a visit.
A friend and I enjoyed great food and amazing wine at Noble Hill yesterday. It was inexpensive and great value for money. So going back!
Everything about this place was amazing. The location, the wine, the host, the food. Top notch. I had the best experience by far at this winery. I hope to see Noble Hill wine in the US someday soon! Just gives me another reason to visit South Africa again. I will recommend this estate to anyone who visits SA. Very warm and welcoming!! Kudos to Chris and company!
From start to finish, Noble Hill is a must-see on any wine tour. From a friendly family vibe, to jaw-dropping views, to great food and service at the restaurant, I am already planning my trip back to the estate. I’ve already bought a case of the Viognier, which, in my opinion, is the best I’ve had in South Africa. Of the 25 estates I’ve visited so far on my trip, Noble Hill is the one I will remember as my favourite.
It was fantastic – wine, decor of the place, and kind people – will definitely come back!!!
(They should seriously consider importing to US!!)
Vrek lekker wyne. Defnitief ‘n rede om weer ‘n keer terug te gaan.
Fantastic experience. Will go back any day!
Great experiance !
