Do not expect to find great wines here, or great service, remember it’s a research farm, so pop in regularly and taste what they have…I have discovered some really good cheap wines here over the years…but I must admit, I leave there mostly disappointed
Very good value for money wines and able to tast some future winemakers wines.
It’s like going to the Department of Home Affairs when you visit this place. Ah, but wait! It’s a government wine institution, so no wonder.
Firstly, 3 people that works at this place does not even know that you can taste wine here.
Secondly, the tasting room felt like a state owned tasting facility – run down, dull and boring. It reminded me a bit of the off-sales counter at our local bottle store.
Thirdly, the guy who served us was useless. We asked if we (2 people) can do a tasting. He replied “yes” and gave us one glass. When I asked for another glass and he grabbed a random glass that had some leftover wine in and gave it to my partner. We were speechless! We asked several questions and all we got was yes or no. He was not unfriendly, but just extremely uninterested and so slow.
The wines were very cheap. The back label stated that some of the wines were blends consisting out of over 1000 different wines. Some of the wines were quite drinkable, but the place itself left us bitter.
Possibly the worst tasting experience ever!!! Rather go for a cough-syrup tasting at Groote Schuur. They’ll offer better service.
