Neethlingshof is elegantly old-dutch from the outside, with an impressive road leading up to the manor house (see the label). Enter the modern and quite sophisticated tasting area and you will be greeted by friendly hosts. The wine is great!

Standouts for me include the Gewürztraminer, which exploded with litchi it was unbelievable. Also the Malbec ’09 was bloody fantastic, especially considering its excellent value for money (R60 per bottle). Vanilla on the Nose with a smooth dark chocolate finish that lingered.

Beautiful new tasting room. The wine and food pairing we did (one of the first groups) was very good and innovative, I wish more estates did something similar. The wines are as always, good value for money, and I was sad to hear the Lord Neethling range has been culled. I hope the new range shows the same old world character. All in all an above average place to visit

Expected the visit to suck, and was greatly surprised by how much i enjoyed it. Modern and busy tasting room with entertaining attendants. The wines live up to the reputation of Neethlingshof, with especially the Gewurtz and Caracal standing out. Driving into the estate along the tree lined avenue is an exquisite experience of history.

Love what they’ve done to the tasting room, especially the funky recycled milk bottle light fittings. It’s a huge improvement since my last visit. The assistant (Kimberly?) was fantastic, well trained, professional, friendly. Both Chardonnays are delicious. Had a yummy lunch on the terrace in the sun too.

This must be the best-looking tasting room I’ve ever seen. A renovated Cape Dutch building with a thoroughly modern interior. Unfortunately all the tables were full, so we had to stand at the bar, which would have been a lot more comfortable if they thought to get some bar stools. The tasting assistant was friendly and knowledgeable and their wine was superb, though. And well priced. I would definitely visit this farm again.

So i came by here again, and still it is an impressive place with lovely gardens to walk through, the place may seem a weeny bit commercialized but the wines still impress, me loving the Lord Neethling Cabernet franc 2003 especially with its complex fruity palate and balance! All the other wines still pleased very well.
Our host did do a good job being so friendly and informative so thanks for that, the tasting center has changed a bit since i was last their which was in May 2008, the new look definitely goes well making it feel more formal!

This was the very first wine farm I had ever experienced as a grown-up (ha ha, I mean not accompanied by my parents and still in school), so of course I loved it! I’ve seen many farms after this one but it still holds a special place in my heart, purely because it was the first one I’d ever been to. This was only last year so it’s still pretty fresh in my memory. I really enjoyed the wine tour and the tasting experience, and developed my love for red wine here – the Lord Neethling Pinotage I think – but nou ja, it was great and an experience I’ll never forget! Not a farm I thought I’d sommer go back to, until I saw the review below – that they have a new fast-food and wine pairing. This new variety to their tastings excites me for another visit!

Neethlingshof has rolled out new and contemporary wine tasting options:

A wine and food pairing concept, entitled Slow Wine and Flash Food, has been introduced where six wines from both the mainstream and reserve ranges are paired with six fast-food dishes, such as a flame-grilled beef burger with camembert and chocolate shavings that goes with the Short Story Collection Owl Post Pinotage. The cost per person is R85 and is available exclusively in the wine tasting centre.

They also offer a standard tasting of six wines at a cost of R30 per person and for an additional R10 you can experience their cellar tour, which should be booked in advance. Another option is the executive tasting of six wines followed by coffee and truffles, for a maximum of 12 guests in the private cellar for only R60 per person.

Very nice that they add some variety to the tastings!

Very busy but they have a nice new wine tasting centre. It is a bit commercial but still fairly nice. Sav Blanc Reserve I thought was very nice and well priced

Mmmm, Neethlingshof’s not just a place to have your huisdans, the make nice wines too.
I especially like their Gewurztraminer (much easier to drink that to spell), full of litchi like you’de expect.
Generally a bit pricey, but worth it.

Maybe we went on a bad day, but we felt that we were ingnored when we tried to speak, and left. We did try a number of times to find where to get coffee and eventually someone just pointed to the Verandah.

Damn! We lost track of the time, so when we entered the tasting room, the clock struck 4pm and the tasting room was busy closing. Luckily a friendly lady called Daniela Von Klapman was extremely kind. She told us that although they are closing, she will allow us taste at least two wines. She recommended some of their best and highly rated wines. She was even informative and did not rush us at all. She told us that Neethlingshof is one of only 3 wine estates in South Africa that produce a straight Cabernet Franc. My personal favourite was the 2005 Lord Neethlings Pinotage at R100 a bottle.

While doing our tasting, we even connected with some fellow wine lovers next to us and had a ball of a time.

Is Neethlingshof a bit commercial? Yes. Worth a visit? Totally. The gardens and buildings on the estate creates a lot of charm and one can just appreciate the effort and time that went into the development of such a historical estate. I can see way the coach tours flock to this spot.

Average wines and very commercial you see the estate was made for people.
But once they bring out the hidden bottles of the lord neethling lauentius 99 then everything else fades.
amazing wines if you are lucky enough to taste them
