Tell us about your experience at Meerhof Private Cellar
To all reviewers:
I thank you for your reviews and opinions as all opinions is welcomed to always better our service.
First of all I can gladly state that our road is now finished tarred and in great shape! What an upgrade to what it was!
Secondly I can now reveal that our new labels, packaging and style is now available to the public, classic styled wines, concentrated , and full of promise!
Thirdly to the people that have driven up on a Saturday/Sunday. The platter wrongly stated that we are open on weekends and I will most certainly correct this in the new edition. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience and invite u all to come visit us so that we can show our appreciation.
Then to Martin
The people working on our roads and buildings was contractors from an outside company. We can only do as much as asking you to forgive this situation as we did not know about the incident. The road and tasting room should have been closed while renovating. Thank you for bringing this under our attention as we have to do some further work in the future!
And lastly,
I want to invite every wine-fly to come and visit us, to see our renovated cellar. We have gone to great lengths to improve our facility. Big lawns, and revamped function facilities are now available. Bring your picnic basket and come enjoy the best view in the country, Table Mountain in front and the Riebeek Valley at the back, with a glass of wine as just the Swartland can produce!
Regards

Lovely view towards Table Mountain. We visited during the olive festival and the students working at the tasting had absolutely no knowledge, but were very cheerful. I think the wines are overpriced. But that said, they are made in a style that must be very popular: sweet, ripe and juicy.
Ah Hennie & Maggie. Good news. They are in the process of laying down a road. Bad news is that they got the devil’s cousin to do it.
I was on the R46 towards Riebeek Kasteel and saw the entrance to this farm with its big white walls and I thought I would swing in. I thought the grey gravel quite peculiar but didn’t give it a second thought as this was the Swartland and obviously they would do things differently… After about a kilometer I got stopped by geriatric with a very red face. I rolled down the window and wasn’t even greeted , the man couldn’t wait to start his verbal assult: “Can you not see that we are trying to lay down a road?” My response was innocently humble because I really felt kak: “Why don’t you close the road then at the entrance?” and got this as a lovely response: “Because anyone can use their F*CKING common sense!” I rolled up the window and continued on and guess what waited for me around the bend. A closed off road!!!! I turned around and on my way out was directed to take a side road to escape the madness.
I do sincerely hope that these are construction workers and are in no way related to the farm, if they are, they should close their doors to the public now already. I’m not keeping this against them but will definitely be back to see if the red face geriatric cousin of Satan is indeed involved at this place and believe me that all hell will break loose.
The Platter said they were open to the public on a Saturday. They were not. Nearly wrote my car off on the shitty road to the cellar. I will never buy their wine.
Attempted to visit the estate on a Saturday. They advertise they are open… they were not. NEVER will I EVER buy their wine or recommend them. I do not like driving all the way to the Swartland from Cape Town to have my time wasted.
Meerhof is probably one of the wine farms in the Swartland district with the best views. It’s absolutely breathtaking. But let’s not forget about the winemaker, Rudi Wium, who is according to my girlfriends, drop dead gorgeous.
Our host, Wilna Liebenberg was friendly and alongside Rudi, they made our tasting experience very memorable. The variety of wines on tasting was not a lot, but they were all drinkable and good. The prices were very affordable. I especially like the fact that they sell those 187ml bottles of wine for the bargain price of R6. They are available in Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 and Chenin Blanc 2007. Perfect to smuggle into…well pretty much anywhere!
Rudi took use on a cellar tour an it was probably my most informative one up to date. It was very interesting and my two girlfriends could not stop drooling. We had an awesome time and will be revisiting them soon to stock up on the 187ml wine and some eye candy!
Nice wines.Beautifull view over Riebeek Valley.
Hospitality very good!
