Really enjoyed the SB 2011, MTB trails are awesome!!
I was here for a market. I enjoyed the wine tasting and the wine and the service was good. I recommend visiting this winery when the market is on. Get a group of friends together and relax here, its really nice!! You can view my full review on http://westerncapewineries.blogspot.com/2011/09/meerendal.html
Great experience in the hidden valley of the Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc region!
Renovations are on there way….. looks like there will be guest lodgings available in the near future as the Deli and the Manor House join forces for the time being. With the Tygerberg Hills as a back drop who could ask for more…….
The tasting experience was enjoyable and with a guy like Davis leading the way….well….the laughs keep coming and the welcoming smile keeps you there for more! I hear David is quite a celebrity round those parts.
Make sure you pop by if you out that side, Boney M had the time of their lives and so will you!!!…… ;p
I had a great experience in the tasting room, the presenter is a laugh. The wines are average, but the dessert wine is outstanding… I thought
Wines are ok, but no dedicated tasting area and the venue is used for functions so often odds are you’d end up trampled by hordes of people.
I am in love with Bin 159… I find their Cab Sav’s truly fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed their tasting experience (Peter and Rose).
The restaurant was well priced and the food was superb, though I felt the service slightly lacking. Availability of certain items on the menu was also on the problem- my guest ordered 3 times before the kitchen could accommodate her selection from their a la carte.
Excellent selection of wines to taste with one of the best Chardonnays I have tasted in a long time, prices are reasonable and staff friendly. Staff could be more attentive of visitors, the assistant we had did not know much about the wines nor did he entice one to try something specific to the taste of the visitors. That said he did open up a bottle of a reserve bin for me despite it being ‘off grounds’ for tasting and I ended up buying 3 bottles of the said wine. Check your slips as you leave as the assistant made a boo boo with my totals necessitating me going back to pay an extra R300 as he came waving and shouting at or car as we drove off.
Excellent quality wines. loved the Pinotage and Merlot but enjoyed almost all of them. The assistant though did not really do these wines justice. He was nice enough but just completely uninfomative
The guy who usually runs the tasting room, David, is very entertaining and passionate about wine. The atmosphere is friendly, and the people make you feel welcome. I have heard a few bad things about the deli lately, but cannot say the same for the wines. This farm has some of the oldest vineyards in the region, and the influence of Bennie Howard in recent times can be seen. Not one really bad wine, but also not one that is unbelievably good…yet…I think they will go from strength to strength
Realy nice wines payment for tasting very confusing but greate to pay then you dont feel oblidged to buy. Had nice meal at restaurant.
Tasting room was very cold on a sunny winter morning. There are gas heaters on the deck but there was no offer to fire one up. The fee structure for tasting is way too complicated. R10 for this, R5 for that, another R5 for something else, R10 extra for bubbly. Why not just make it two prices: Rxx for standard tasting, Rxxx for premium tasting? After paying R60 for two of us to two taste – and not even all the wines – there was no incentive to buy. That said, the Sauv Blanc is very good (it is Durbanville after all) and so are the Merlot and Pinotage. And we had a great lunch at the Manor House.
Great experience, fantastic restaurants, nice views.
Friendly service, great location. Wines are forgettable though.
Experienced honest friendly wine tasting assistants with a passion for wine.
Meerendal has a great feel to it. The wines are good and well priced. They are friendly with students (not Michael Jacson friendly, but nice), and very informative. The tasting area is very nice and the view is great.
Great food, both at the Deli and Barn and Lawn. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and their Cab / Merlot blend is stomping. Definitely my fave!
It was not my first visit to Meerendal, but the previous time they were our last stop on the wine route and….say no more!
Thank goodness I went back, because I had an awesome experience. The two tasting room ladies, Rose and Cheri was so friendly, that I didn’t want to leave! The wine was good and reasonably priced. But the company was better. So revisiting, even if it’s just for a quick chat and a good laugh! Thanks girls!
A friend of mine took me to visit Durbanville wine route. It was my first time at Meerendal. I met David and Rose and I was charmed , the passion of these 2 people about wine is catching and the wines are good and not overpriced. Thank you for your hospitality.
Next time , I will be visiting Meerendal with my French tourists.
I agree! They are fantastic!
I absolutely love Meerendal and all the fantastic people in the tasting room!!
