Tell us about your experience at Major’s Hill Winery
very unique building with tasting room. Nice and friendly father and daughter gave us tasting. Found nice but slightly sweet chardonnay for good price.
Tasting room attendant was friendly and polite. The wines however where exceptional value for moneyt particularly the lookout ridge. and the merlot was ok.
Great Merlot!!
What a surprise! the tasting room attendant was friendly and the wines were (most of it at least) above average…try tasting different years of the same cultivar, they are not scared to experiment it seems
good wine. nice people
The sign at the gate said “open” but there was no sign of life on a Friday. Won’t attempt again. Ever.
This is one of my favourite wineries in the Robertson area. The merlot is superb. It is the only winery to offer wineskins to those of us who want to bring their superb wines back to the UK in our luggage.
Ek besoek Robertson gereeld. En elke keer besoek ek Major’s Hill neffens die koppie en ry met die industriële betonryvlak op na die proelokaal. En elke keer is die kelder en proelokaal gesluit. Sal maar moet aanhou probeer…
I personally did not enjoy this farm with the strip of concrete slab (like out of a StarWars movie), dragging you away from the natural beauty the farm has to offer and back to the reality of city-living. The owners must be from Jo’burg.
Anyway, I did enjoy their Merlot and I’ve tasted a lot of them. Very nice, and the balance of the wines also not too bad.
They did have the drama with a guest making a comment about a violin player which were underaged. This drama definitely added to charm of the farm. (I would’ve loved to hear them play though)
(*www*)
Major’s Hill was the find of the Wacky Wine Weekend this year. We deliberately set out to visit new places and weren’t disappointed. The Merlot is phenomenal (and I am not a Merlot fan usually), the Pinotage is a winner and the Cab and Shiraz must be tasted as well.
In addition, the farm kept things low key, straightforward and simple for the WWW weekend. Great wine and great service resulted in a very chilled afternoon and a thumbs up from everyone.
Major’s Hill Merlot is one of the best South African Merlots. A bold statement? Maybe but these wines do not disappoint.
