Magdalena:” what do you want?
Drew:to wine taste
Magdalena: there is a R20 tasting fee
Drew: ok
Wonderful view! Original sin is a must. I simply loved the stories behind the wines.
We had such a good experience!! that view is just to die for! Loved the wines especially The affair!!! The service started off slow but she warmed up as soon as she realized we knew a bit about wine.
I am not sure whether I had 4, 5 or 6 wines (only allowed 5) – but our host kept telling us more about how many wines we had tasted and forgot to tell us about the wines. Left disappointed
I went there a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. Views were great, the entree’s we had was fabulous, and service very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the chardonnay. I am not a chardonnay fan, yet this was the one that I loved the most and bought a bottle of.
The reisling is quite bad here, but it does help if you let it sit for a few mins before trying it. On that note, I haven’t had any good reisling’s in SA. You can view my review on this winery on my wine blog: http://westerncapewineries.blogspot.com/2011/03/la-vierge-walker-bay.html
Die mees onvriendelikste personeel.
Amazing view (you have to go to the toilet), but while the early vintages were good and showed great promise, I haven’t been impressed by their recent stuff (in fact, I was embarrassed to have brought friends on the promise of good wine…)
Visited to taste the new Pinot Noir from Domaine Des Dieux (only to be released next week.) An easy drinking Pinot Noir with lots of fruit on the nose. Wednesday we’ll be back to taste the new release by La Vierge – Satyricon. A blend of Barbera, Sangiovese and Nebiolo. Looking forward!
good wine
Best view in Hermanus, good food but crap wine
Started of great but lost the chef and now very average.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful! The wines are good too, pity about the garish labels. Very friendly staff.
Best view from any farm in the Hemel and Aarde valley. Excellent Sauvignon Blanc and MCC. Why they have those ugly labels though…. goodness only knows. Also loved standing having a pee and being able to look onto the vineyard.
Visited the farm on Saturday 27 Feb 2010. Lovely setting and really BEAUTIFUL views! Quite impressed with the entrance to the tasting room (you can see the entire cellar and in harvesting time, the process right beneath you), friendly cellar staff thats at the ready to answer any questions that pops into mind. . .
Unfortunately I cannot say the same of the tasting room staff. . . I will not complain about the service AS WE DIDN’T RECEIVE ANY. When we entered the tasting room, the lady behind the counter informed us that she is too busy to help us and that a group of this size should have booked! (a group of 5 people!) We were instructed to wait outside on the deck, and that she would call us once she had time to help us. After about 20min AND NO CALL BACK even though new guests arrived and were helped, we went back inside to enquire if we could do the tasting outside, we offered to return inside each time our glasses needed to be refilled, THE ANSWER WAS NO! Finally after a 30min wait we where called inside for the tasting. Once inside we had a look at the wines available, and just as we were about to start the tasting we were told TO WAIT AGAIN, seeing that a customer who was already angry at the host wanted to order wines. . .
So we left. . . .
Really disappointed that we did not get to taste the wines, as we have heard good things about it. I understand that the host could have been under at alot of pressure, but our group of 5 people, 4 of us work in the wine industry (3 people in tasting rooms in and around stellenbosch). This situation could have been handled differently to benefit all parties. Remember it’s our job to sell wine, market a brand, and create an unique and pleasant experience. . . this one was definately unique. . .
We popped in at La Vierge early on a Sunday morning. We were welcomed by Ryan Dalton who was friendly, good looking and helpful. He introduced us to their wines and despite the fact that he’s only been working at La Vierge for about 2 weeks, he showed true passion for the product. Even when it got really busy when a group of tourist arrived, he manage to stay calm and provided great service to everyone.
Back to the wines, I really enjoyed the Domaine des Dieux Sauvignon Blanc 2008. Domaine des Dieux is a sister farm of La Vierge and means “Land of the Gods.” What a pretty name! I also enjoyed the Domaine des Dieux Chardonnay 2008, but it was a bit pricey at R120. The same goes for the Rose that tasted a bit watery at R40. The Domaine des Dieux Claudia MCC 2006 really rocked my boat though and was worth every cent at R130 a bottle.
With amazing views and a really friendly and passionate Ryan, La Vierge scored some brownie points early on a Sunday morning. Definitely a must visit during the summer season.
Visited La Vierge and had an exceptional time there. Will recommend it to anyone who’s in the region and definitely a favorite wine farm…..
