Had a lovely tasting here, friendly and chilled out place, loved the cab franc, rosé, Konfetti sparkling rosé (might a bit overpriced?) and chenin – lovely wines and a lovely farm to visit – i’ll be back!

I visited Knorhoek on a Sunday afternoon. The tasting experience was relaxed and I enjoyed the conversation with our host and the view of the grounds outside under the shade of the oak trees. Afterwards we went to the restaurant, the Towerbosch Earth Kitchen, and enjoyed the Asado lunch immensely. Placed on a family farm, the grounds are lovely, the interior charming and the food was a classic serving of home-cooked delights. It really took me back, a perfect place for families since the children can play while the adults relax for the afternoon. For a complete review of my experience please click on http://theresalozier.blogspot.com/2010/12/closer-to-home-at-knorhoeks-towerbosch.html I definitely recommend this as a “must see” destination for visiting family or even friends from overseas.

What a little gem! Pretty (even a bit nostalgic) tasting room with friendly & knowledgeable staff (Yvette assisted us). All the red wines are good & outshine the whites. Will be back to visit the new restaurant.

Visited on a weekday and had a cool reception initially, that fortunately warmed up considerably. Yvette was our host and she knows the products inside and out. Setting is spectacular and the red wines are good.

The tasting room was neatly decorated and placed in such a way as to open up onto a two-level tasting area with picnic tables overlooking one of the most beautiful vistas in the area. I could see myself spending hours at the farm. Their wines are very pleasant and full of character. I really enjoyed the Reserve Blend 2004 which is very reasonable priced at R80. Even the flagship Pantere 2005, also a winner, @ R110. What did leave a sour taste though was the hostess which I will dedicate an entire paragraph to. Yes meisie, you are officially the pinnacle example of what a tasting room attendant, service lady, hostess should not be.

I left my friend outside who chatted up some random District 9 individual and his entourage, and headed for the bar area where I first encountered the giant (both in stature and reputation) #fail in service lady, with the plastic (moerse) purple flower in her blond her – her name was not worth getting. I greeted her and asked how the tastings worked. She looked at me and without even a nod to acknowledge the fact that there is some inherent hint of mannerism left in her being, instructed me that the tasting is R20 for 5 wines and I can sit inside or outside. I assume (and I hope this is the case and not her general personality) she was irritated because it was late on a Friday afternoon and here come another couple of drunken asses. It’s the winelands!! Surely you have are use to it by now, right? She probably wanted to start her weekend early or was running late for her flight back to hell. Or maybe this isn’t even her real job, nevertheless, there is no excuse for the way we were treated. Maybe that is where my comment on the order form came from… neatly underneath the “WELCOME TO KNORHOEK” heading you are advised of the following: “Please save a tree” (A TREE WITH ONE PAGE?!!) “and do not write on me …”. I use these pricelists/brochures to make notes on the winery and there wines so in my drunken state, after I already started making these notes, I wrote “WTF is this?” next to it, she spotted this and informed me of the fact that they are trying to go green and therefore recycle these lists and in her words: “…that is WTF it is!”, she grinned, turned and walked away. Save a forest and use less peroxide the next time you saw of your horns and colour your hair. There are so many other things she didn’t get right: When asked to tell us something interesting, she failed twice. When a wondering guest from the estate walked pass and we asked her to pour him a glass she insisted that they were closing and she couldn’t (HE IS A GUEST FOR FKS!!) and the cherry on the cake, closed the doors to the tasting room and spinned off in her lawnmower of a car. Sad … but true.

So, in essence, this is what I will be reminded of every time I hear this farms name or see a bottle on the shelf: Knor = grunt | hoek = corner | teef = bitch – I.e. the bitch should rather go sit in a corner, grunt at herself and avoid any ‘human’ contact … ever!!

Small and neat tasting room. Their dog merlot kept sleeping on my feet. Thank goodness the wine was a good distraction. Decent wines

Our very friendly host made us feel right at home and told us interesting stories about leopards and wine. I enjoyed it so much that I forgot to take the awesome corkscrew that I bought. Keep it safe until next time guys! ROAAAAARRRRRRR
