Tell us about your experience at Joostenberg
The chef carried out the tasting for us and he was rather entertaining and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the butchery, supermarket and restaurant take away from the wine tasting experience. At some point a pungent stench of cow dung engulfed the entire room,… unless they purposely made a wine smell that…. “natural”. The white Fairhead was impressive!
Problem here is that the winery seems to want to make the place far more about the deli than the wines themselves, which is a shame as the wine selection looks like one you could spend some time cosying up to. But tasting wine in a surrounding tantamount to being in a supermarket aisle is not encouraging, and neither is the fact that the wines were not kept well-chilled when necessary – there was no fridge by the counter. As a result, any chance the wines had to make an impression evaporated. The deli is worth nosing through for some rarities though, and your rands go a little further than average in the restaurant.
Fine wines and what wonderfull imported French pate and even rabbit to cook. Loved the Stark Conde Pinot Noir very good price.
Great deli and butchery, excellent breads. Always some interesting wines to taste.
Lovely butchery & deli, worth a visit just for that. Restaurant is so-so but a hit with families as there is ample space for playing! Wines are average with the Fairhead a stand out.
wines are average, nice deli
chardonney thats all i can say.
‘n Baie aangename ondervinding.
You taste the wines at Klein Joostenberg… a 3 star Rossouw eatery to boot. The Joostenberg Fairhead is spectacular and worth every cent of the R90 you spend on it.
