Had superb private tasting with my wine club, The Muizimbibers, given by Cathy who was informative, funny and passionate about what Hout Bay Vineyards had on offer. All the wines were delicious and as a club our choices were very varied. I particularly loved the bubbly, but sadly it was the last of that vintage and awaiting the next vintage to be released, but happily purchased the sauvignon blanc and merlot. Definitely worth trying to get to one of their two days of the year where they’re open to the public.
Lovely tasting and a very nice bubbly at a reasonable price.
This winery is open only two weekends a year; we were lucky enough to be in Hout Bay on one of the open days. Friendly family, gorgous views, and a pretty decent MCC, which is made from grapes grown on the property. The reds are pretty decent too, but made from bought-in fruit.
This little cellar is located in the heart of hout bay. Once you get past the little hike to get to the main house you are greeted by 6 wines and Peter and Cathy.
We did not talk much about the wine making etc because it was their open day and they where rather busy but they where friendly enough to say hie.
Their red wines are rather abrasive and closed up. And i found the sauvignon blanc a bit imbalanced but the Mcc was lovely and never got the chance to taste the port. Lovely little find and worth visiting on a sunday afternoon the wines have some way to go
