I liked this winery a lot. The lady serving us was really friendly, we arrived here just before it closed and she was more than happy for us to come in for a tasting. We are going tomorrow for dinner. I am looking forwar to sitting on the decking drinking their wine and eating pizza under the willow trees beside the dam!!!

This place is a must if you are visiting the Elgin area. The hospitality was as great as their Deli’s wares was! Great place to just chill over lunch time – thanx for the excellent SB.

The wine & setting at Highlands Road Estate is just magnificent. It is one of my most favorite venues to enjoy good wine, scrumptious Tapas & a great pizza in the Elgin Valley. Incredible good value for money! The wine-tasting hosted by Justin Hoy (winemaker) is an absolute treat. Great Sauvignon Blanc (the best).
Thank you Justin & Mary Hoy.

One of my favourite sauvignon blancs from my favourite region, Elgin. Justin makes the wine tasting, really passionate about his SB. Unfortunately the deli was closed…maybe next holiday

I like how personal the estate is. We enjoyed the wines and also had a lovely al fresco lunch there. It’s seriously good value for money too.

A retun visit in early March, wines tasting as good as ever. At last someone who doesn’t want to rush their Sauvignons on to the market, the 2009 is just getting better and better.

Living in Stellenbosch, you get used to impersonal tasting experiences which you always have to pay for. Visiting the Elgin Valley is a nice change in scenery. Highlands Road Estate was probably the highlight of our visit. Mary was a fantastic host with fantastic wine knowledge and a wicked sense of humour. The wines at this estate is also top notch, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc and the Pinot Noir. I’ll definitely be back for more!

This is a great wine estate to visit. Mary and Justin are friendly and outgoing hosts. Justin was very knowledgeable and it was a learning experience for me. Try their deli and enjoy lunch on the deck by the dam. I will definitely be back on my next trip.

Return visit on a glorious summer’s day. Wonderful tasting. Really enjoyed the 2009 Sauv Bland although I was outvoted by my friends who preferred the 2008. Pinot Noir is something special.

So glad we could stopped here, very friendly service and good, good wine! I enjoyed the dark full bodied Pinot noir and the lovely crisp rose will be very nice on a hot summers afternoon, both great wines!

Really enjoyed the visit. Fire in the hearth on an early winter afternoon, lovely people, pretty property and excellent wines, especially the older Sauv Blanc 2007 and an impressive Pinot Noir. Lunch from the deli was a delicious bonus.

Return visit in December. Simple, small and charming winery. Even better than ever, great deli too which compliments some extremely well made wines. Try their coffee which is there own blend. If marking again I would give a 9 maybe even 10.

@Dion Martin – Sorry to hear that you tried to pop in, there should have been a sign explaining the closure up. We were closed for nearly 3 months on account of the bridge being washed away in the winter rains. It was very frustrating. However, I am pleased to say that we are now open again, and running at full steam, and would love you to try again, and join us for a tasting and perhaps a bite to eat in the deli. Just tell us who you are when you get here, we’d like to give you a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for your trouble. See you on the farm, Cheers, Justin

Brilliant Wines and great deli, a must for anyone in the area. I love the various different styles of Sauvignon. I look forward to my return trip to South Africa and in particular Highlands Road. The wine is now in the SW of England, http://www.newton-wines.com.

This is by far the best wine farm I have visited for a long time. It is refreshing to visit a farm that has a unique balance of traditional and modern flair – about time !! Well done to Justin and May Hoy. We especially love your decks onto the dam, and ideal place to sip on some superb wines and eat yummy home made meals. I especially like the Rose.

However, if you could inform me what an ” ES A E ” is it would be much appreciated ! ( see photo ) :D
Did the car come with the estate? :P

Wow! What an amazing place! Breathtaking scenery, extremely friendly staff and very tasty wines. A true hidden gem!

We were welcomed by Simon van der Merwe. He was friendly and made us feel right at home. We were also introduced to the super cool winemaker, Justin Hoy. I really enjoyed the wine, the conversation and the scenery. The tasting room has a fresh and modern look and one can see that a lot of effort was put into it.

I enjoyed all the wines that were on tasting. My personal favourites:

2007 Sauvignon Blanc @ R75
2008 Free Run Sauvignon Blanc @ R90 YUMMY!

I will definitely visit this spot again and again. To top it all they even have a restaurant with a deli. Can’t wait to try it out. Best find of the year so far!
