Great entry level wine. Big fan of Rhinofield range! Single vineyard range excellent. View and food very nice!
Excellent lunch with great views. The wines we tasted were excellent, well made and great value.
We really liked your winter Soup Sip n Bread and also the Blending evening.
I thought the Chocolate and biltong pairing was a great Idea….I’m huge fan of the sauvignon Blanc Rhinofields
Ah….. There’s No place like home! This is what Durbanville Hills has become to me. The closest winelands to the city as well as the flagship of it’s region, it boasts some of the best award winning wines with their 3 different tiers – Durbanville Hills, Rhinofields & Single Vineyards. Be sure to pop in to try out their creative tasting packages which range from chocolate & biltong pairings. When you done pop upstairs to DH Eatery for a Summer Fresh menu that will leave your palate wanting for more, conveniently listed with wine pairings that have been suggested by the winemakers of the Estate. Truly an Awesome experience where you can get more of a modern feel and yet still all the necessities one expects from a Winery. Last but not least……if you have not seen the view from the balcony(Bastion) located by the Eatery, then you have not seen Cape Town & the West Coast in it’s full Glory! A Must see…………do yourself a favour and go check it out……. ;p
Thoroughly enjoyed the tasting. Staff very helpful and great location.
very disapointing
I was a bit disappointed with the wine at Durbanville Hills. The locals told me Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc is great, yet the only one I like is the Durbanville Hills Biesjes Craal Sauvignon Blanc. Its very grand this winery, has a good view and the food at the restaurant is good. You can check out my review on this winery on my wine blog: http://westerncapewineries.blogspot.com.
Revisited Durbanville Hills early March and what a pleasant surprise! Their refurbished tasting room looks amazing. The place has a warm yet modern feel now and the staff was extremely friendly.
Try the Tapas and Vine Special on Fridays. Too much to eat tapas and 3 glasses of wine for only R95 per person. BARGAIN!
Very impressed with the facelift! Do go check it out.
Over-commercialized in almost every sense, to be avoided if running into typical self-assumed wine guru tourists is not your thing.
Wines remain fairly good, but they switched from proper glasses to the international tasting glass a while back and so removed the last good thing I had to say about the winery.
Great range of wines up for tasting. Really enjoyed the new Merlot Rose 2010 and can’t wait for the new Sauvignon Blanc vintages. Thanks for a well presented tasting and yummy lunch!
Sal die kelder vir enigeiemand aanbeveel….die personeel is baie hulpvaardig en vriendelik. Die Rose is TOPS!!!!! En onthou om n draai by die restaurant ook te maak – baie nice uitsig en die lekkerste kos….
Had a fantastic wine tasting at the cellar yesterday. The new Merlot Rose is gorgeous! Its been a while since ive visited the cellar and was blown away by the warm atmosphere in the tasting room. Enjoyed a delicious Charcuterie cheese platter outside under the olive trees. Wonderful!
Been to Seasons of Sauvignon a few weeks back and the atmosphere was very relaxing! Lovely people, LOVELY wine! Will definitely visit again!!
Bit of a cheek to charge for tasting but then again R35 for 12 odd wines is not at all bad. Excellent selection of Sauvignon Blanc’s and Chadonnay’s for the white wine enthusiasts. Rhinefields collection is of particular interest, buttery chardonnay with hints of litchi and pepper. Prices excellent, amazing venue and friendly staff make it a must try!
Heather and I popped in to this wine estate on Sunday for the season of sauvignon event. We tasted the Sauvignon Blanc 2010, it was great, nice and crisp. Not as grassy as the 2009 but I prefered it. Kate and her team are very professional and organised.
Have always enjoyed their whites and think that their standard whites are excellent value for money but really enjoyed their upmarket Rhinofields whites even more. Did not particularly like the reds. The experience at the farm was very poor though. We went on the public holiday and was told that the tasting room closes at 13;30 and that they stop people comming in after 13;00. This makes sense as it gives tasters an opportunity to come in before 1pm and relax and not be that rushed as well as allowing the staff to close to 13;30. However to my dismay, when we arrived at 12:50 we were told by an impatient host that they close the doors at 13:00 and therefore we can only tast 1 or two wines. When I told them that it says you close at 13:30 they agreed and grungingly served us a full quota of tastes. This is specifically what the rule above is meant to avoid but we were rudely greeted by someone who just wanted a reason to go home early. Left a realy sour taste in the mouth.
Consistent quality, good value for money, and every wine displays typical character of the particular varietal. Loved the Bastion in terms of value for money. Awesome restaurant.
Lovely shiraz, great views
Excellent wine tasting venue, very friendly people, complimented by a restaurant of note.
Cold and heartless are my first impressions…even though the tasting room was empty we had to ask if we “may” taste some wine. Mass produced wine at crazy prices.
The best Merlot but the expensive one. Realy go and buy a bottle.
Experienced an good averaged wine tasting. Absolutely love the sauvignon blanc. Visited the restaurant twice. During the first visit we ordered the a la carte menu from top to bottom. Enjoyed everything although a bit costly. The second time we had the Sunday buffet – very disappointing, the food were cold and tasteless.
Even though they have their place in the wine industry, the wine feels almost factory made – especially the “normal” bottom end range. The tasting room is too clinical – feels like an office block. Staff well trained, but cold. The sort of place you visit once, and never again.
Always nice to visit you guys – thans for a nice day out.
Very pleasant tasting room experience, wide variety of wines at all prices – something for everyone.
DBVHills provides a cool, relaxed atmosphere to taste really great wines at your leisure. Their premium range is more for everyday drinking (which luckily is affordable enough to do so) and teir Rhinofields and Single Vineyard ranges deserve all the awards they get!
PS. As the place was quite full for the festival I did not get a stiff upper lip at all while there, I am happy to say…
Was there for the Sauvignon Blanc Fest – must say didn’t know you can get so many different Sauvignon Blancs from the same farm to taste so different from each other!
I loved them though, really enjoyed the Durbanville Hils Sauv Blanc 2008 + 2009..
The Restaurant experience was nice, the whole vibe is very cold and clinical like a hospital. Agree on the wines with Andrew the Rhino field range is better. Another Distell baby.
over the top wine estate very modern wines are not upto standard except for the rhino field
Durbanville Hills is a modern and hi-tech Estate with a great view over…. Parklands. The tasting room is big and appears a bit cold and stiff. Our host was friendly and made our tasting experience enjoyable. The wines are average and a bit pricey for what you get. The restaurant seems nice but also a bit “stiff upper lip”. Great views though.
A bit pretentious I would say.
