Qualiy and value wines
Not normally a Merlot fan but this one blew me away.
We arrived together with a touring group of girls celebrating a birthday who seemed to be having a lot of fun. Made the small pokey tasting room a bit noisy and crowded but our hostess Yolanda, coped quite well. Merlot and Cab Sauv were my pick of the day.
Had an unpleasant start with Yolanda but as we eased into the wines and got chatting we warmed up to each other. all i can say about this farm is Merlot! wow i loved both their Merlots and Yolanda’s beauty was not enough to distract me.
Du preez has a rather bother boring tasting room but the Merlot makes up for it all
this farm and the winemaker Kobus are exceptional, they make you feel at home and the tranquility adds to the experiance when tasting the wines. Now the quality is something that can challange the best with there Sauv/b and Hanepoot…. what good tastes come to mind when thinking back. al and al a superb experiance, taste and people.
Always love the Sauvignon Blanc and sadly unable to get any more of their 2006 Cab Sav. Haven’t tried to 2009 CS but looking forward to trying it when next at Du Preez
Great wines, love the 2010 Sauvignon blanc!!
very nice 2010 S blanc
Their tasting room is really small, which might be a problem for bigger groups, but the three of us were the only people there, so it didn’t matter. Our tasting assistant was very friendly and was clearly passionate about the wines. We spent quite some time there chatting to her while tasting their very well-priced wines. I was particularly impressed by the Petit Verdot, not a varietal found on its own very often. Unfortunately their Methode Cap Classique was not available for tasting, but I bought two bottles anyway, having heard good things about it. And I was not disappointed.
We were welcomed with one of Hennie’s Hanepoot Martini’s at 10am on a Saturday morning. It went down amazingly well, considering the fun time we had the night before. The soup on offering was out of this world and the entertainment provided by Hennie, Pieter and the rest of the Du Preez gang were even better.
After the Hanepoot Martini’s we moved onto the only Method Cap Classique that the valley has to offer. It’s named after Hendrik Lodewyk the fourth (a family name of the Du Preez) and we were honoured to meet young Hendrik Lodewyk, who is round about 5 years old.
We eventually bought the Hanepoot and the Dolla’s Red Blend which added up to only R70 for both. Yummy and extremely well priced. One can see that they have great passion for the industry and for people. What a great time we had!
The rockstars of the Breedekloof valley. Wines to match.
The Petit Verdox rock!
Love this winery and they have a fantastic Petit Verdox Reserve that is to die for!!
