Tell us about your experience at De Reuck Wines
Met up with Marcel on a lovely saturday morning at his farm we were very fortunate to meet the man behind the fantastic red wines.
he served us 6 reds and threw in an 04 shiraz and cab. The Cab was still standing and had a lot of length.
I have recently started consulting for this winery. October 2010 to be exact, so things are starting to happen here. Lunch is now an everyday accurance, the estate will start having special occasion dinners and events, like for Valentines
I took some Belgium friends here and other places and at the end of the day they had only bought wine from De Reuck, so when they told me that De Reuck’s wines were much better than anywhere else I took them (and I only go to estates with good wine), I know they were not just trying to please me with words.
The wine is good, all full bodied wines, great structure and just what new world wines should be. The newly released port is out of this world, very diffierent, and worth a try.
Tasting fee R25 per person, refundable with a purchase and you can taste the port, it is not one of those NOT FOR TASTING jobbies.
I would advise that you book for lunch or a tasting, as this entire farm is run by one man, Marcel, so if you want the personal experience on this family owned estate, you don’t want to arrive while Marcel is out fetching pig food for the new litter (hehe)
It lacks the charm/service required for an excursion into the winelands. . .
What a nice surprise! We were welcomed by a friendly lady who is also the owner’s wife. She shared the history of the farm and the wines. A boutique winery with quality wines and very well priced. Full bodied and a lot of character!
They also offer light lunches on the outside patio from where you have a stunning view over the Paarl valley. You won’t find their wines in the shops, so better you make a plan and visit the farm. Well worth it! My favourite was the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon at only R70.
Oh, and check out the bill board at the entrance of a pretty lady and a seductively placed red wine glass…very kinky!
A gem of a place. Do not miss stopping here. Unsure of the arrangements these days regarding making appointments, but do not miss out. Marcel de Reuck makes very very good red wines and the setting is beautiful. Have lunch there and enjoy the view.
