Disappointed !! Red wines at room temperature which was 25C! Whites mostly high alcohol but a few notable exceptions shows that there is potential.

Had a wine tasting here last week Friday and i just have to compliment the girl helping our group and the enthusiasm which she did her job. The wine is also splendid and a thumbs up for them.

11.08.2012. Another great tasting. We were meant to spend the day looking at wedding venues and landed up getting comfortable and tasting wine. Admittedly we “wrote off” the young tasting staff as first glance, but as soon as we started tasting, we found them to be helpful and friendly and to know a lot about their wines. Buitenverwachting is a must if tasting in the Constantia Valley.

(Cape Townians forget that there are world class wines 10 minutes from home and can go wine tasting at a drop of a hat. – grab a cab/taxi with some mates and drink local).

Our most unusual business meeting of the year was a picnic on their lawn with a bottle of their Superb Sauvignon Blanc. mI think we got some work done, too.

Great value wines. Young guy in tasting room was obviously learning but he did ask to find out the answers to our questions. Great affordable range of wines – particular enjoy their blanc de noir (one of my favourite roses) and their late harvest stands out especially for the price

Love this winery. Had a really nice late lunch with friends at this winery. We drank the Sauvignon Blanc with our lunch, and it was fantastic!!! I bought a bottle of this wine at the supermarket the other day and it was as good as I had remembered. I can’t wait to go and try all the other wines. Eventually got to taste the wines – thoroughly enjoyed all the wines, especially the Rough Diamond. Tasting Room staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful – even letting us taste the unreleased Grappa. A wonderful way to spend a grey winter afternoon.

@Maggie Mostert – Hi Maggie – sorry for the wait on a reply. Apologies for sounding a bit abrupt in my post of 17 May, but I was under the impression that you visited us on the date you posted your comment.

Re: Picnics – I can only relay this message to Adrienne – who is the owner of this company.
RE: Tasting hours: We did change the times in mid-November but I’m not sure why they were closed at 13h00. They should have been open until 15h00 – will certainly follow up. Vinous regards.

FACT: The wines sales and tasting were NOT open when we were there on a Saturday in December 2009. We even asked as it was just after 13h00.

FACT: The blonde woman aswering my question of “we would like to have lunch please” WAS from the picnics as the she said “we have no space for you under the trees for a picnic” and did not even mention that there was another restaurant on the property.

Buitenverwachting is an exquisite farm with a welcoming tasting room. Tastings are free and generous. Feeling peckish try a good value Winzer Platter served in the tasting room.

Ilze is a wonderful hostess and quite often one is lucky enough to meet owner Lars!

@Maggie Mostert – Refer: Post on 13 May 2010 @ 10:08 (Wine sales are OPEN until 15h00 – since Nov 2009) Granted the signage outside the gate has not been changed. Also – I think it’s a bit unfair assuming that the staff were from the picnics as they are always closed from May until Nov.

Closed at 13h00 on a Saturday for wine tasting…surely as a tourist destination you don’t do that. VERY RUDE staff at the picnic area. Lunch was average and not in line with the reputation of either the place or the chef.

To the Grande Madame and fellow wine flies – please take note : the operating hours (Saturday) of the Wine Sales were scheduled for change at the beginning of November but only managed to adjust that towards the latter part of November. (Reason irrelevant) the important thing is the new hours – 10.00-15.00 … I’m sure all will agree that this is much more accommodating.

One of the best reasons to visit Buitenverwachting is definitely for the beautiful scenery. The scenic drive up to the estate is breathtaking. The big lawn is so inviting, it can just as well be my bedroom! It’s a perfect spot for a family picnic…..or any picnic for that matter.

I always thought that Buitenverwachting is much nicer on the outside than on the inside, but things have changed. The tasting room has been revamped and it looks much better!

The wine is still great and the hosts are friendly and creates a great vibe. I will re-visit them again and again and again!…until I have shares.

We love this place for the picnic on the lawns. It has a superb ambience and is nice and close to Cape Town so its easy to meet for lunch with friends there. We had our wedding anniversary here with about 30 guests. That was last year. Just last week we went to a friend’s retirement party and again it was fabulous. It started at 12 and we drifted away at 5 so it must have been good! There is a huge Norfolk Island Pine which offers good shade though one has to move the tables and chairs with the moving shade as the afternoon progresses. Adrienne caters very well for one or two, or for large numbers and we have never had a bad experience; plus the picnic is very reasonably priced and offers really good value. The only negative is the flies indoors at the serving area, because this is horse country but we were pleased to see that Adrienne had her kitchen staff chasing them away Curiously there were zero flies where we were eating outside.
