Tell us about your experience at Boplaas Wine Cellar
Here you will find anything from Port to wine to brandy. The folks at Boplaas are extremely passionate and fun-loving people. They offer a wide slection to pick and choose from at amazing quality. It’s a great place to visit if you ever find yourself in the Calitzdorp area. http://winetimes.co/2012/12/07/exploring-south-african-brandy-on-route-62/
The vast range of wines is overwhelming, especially as the tasting room assistant was not able to communicate the differences between them all. It’s not enough to say: ‘this one is stronger than that one’. Dry white wines are not the strong point and seem to dilute the focus from the reds and fortifieds. I liked the Portuguese-style dry reds and obviously the Ports.
Over priced and un informed tast room attendant. Please train her to know the product . Realy pathetic. But bought a Kallis port 1998 for only R85 , the only well priced wine. The rest of the staff wonderfull.
Carel Nel has certainly got very talented daughters to follow him up,Margaux is going to be big news in the future.Tasted their new Tinta Chocolate at Prowein in Germany, wow !This kind of innovation is what I love and hope it’s going to be a fantastic success. The Blanc de Noir is superb, not too sweet,my favourite rosé.Can’t wait to visit them again in the new, year.
The same goes for Boplaas, worth the drive out to the Klein Karoo…Calitzdorp’s greatest assets!
No wonder this wine farm has won so many awards. Boplaas is synonomous with port, but that doesn’t mean their white or red wines aren’t any good. On the contrary… Boplaas has a whole range of wines. I particularly liked their Cab Sav and the Tinta Barroco was also good. This is a wine farm that likes to keep it in the family. A little bird told me that Carel Nel’s daughter Margaux is very much involved in the winemaking at Boplaas and will be “taking charge” of next year’s harvest. Under the watchfull eyes of her dad of course.
Over all. Going to Boplaas is a great experience.
Being just down the road, this wine farm is so easy for us. I love the fact that you can taste anything from sparkling wines, to whites, reds, ports and dessert wines. Many of their ports have won awards. Friendly attentive service too. Love the Cape Ruby Port, Cape Tawny Port and Pink Port! And its much cheaper than buying from any shops. No pleasant outdoor space to relax unfortunately.
