The tasting room has plenty of tables for groups to have tastings but the counter area for standing is a bit small. 3 groups of 2 or 3 max. We did like the Morkel Pinotage and were very eager to taste the Malbec and Petit Verdot which you seldom find bottled on their own.

Very nice and relaxing tasting. Love the red wines and bought some of the Tumara that is on special at the moment.

Rustic, atmospheric tasting room in historic old building, with old open fermenters converted into tasting booths. I’ve long been a fan of the red wines, and on this visit the Malbec and the Petit Verdot were the two stand-outs. The service was relaxed and friendly.

Love the wines! Every time we visit we get friendly service and enjoy great wines. Even the grape juice is fabulous!

The Morkel family have owned this farm for generations and this comes out in their wines. Truly a traditional, full bodied wine farm – like its wines. Definitely one of the three best farms for Pinotage in SA, and one can even do horse riding on the farm – preferably before a tasting. The wines are named after some of the horses – my favourite being Tumara – both the horse and the wine. :-)

For someone who does not generally enjoy pinotage, the PK Morkel Pinotage and Pinotage made a huge impression on me. The malbec is stunning, a variety not often bottled in the Western Cape.

Bellevue Estate has the best Pinotage that I have tasted so far. It is a remarkable Wine Estate that produce more than half a million litres of high quality wine. We had the honour to meet the owner of the farms Stepmother, Petra Morkel. She was the first Wine Tasting Female Critic in South Africa. What a legend! Bellevue was the first farm to grow and produce Pinotage. No wonder that they are the Kings of Pinotage. Our host Randall Peceur was excellent and very passionate about his wine. I had some of the best wines ever! Definitely no spitting!

The Pinotage 2006 was rated by the Harper Magazine as “Best Red Wine in the World” -which it is! I missed the release of the Morkel Pinotage 2007 in September 2008, but will definitely put a reminder on my calender not to miss the Morkel Pinotage 2008. It will be released in September 2009. Can’t wait!

One of my personal favourites in the Stellenbosch area.
