Tell us about your experience at Ataraxia
The only bad thing about ataraxia is the treacherous drive especially if you have a small car. But once in the wine longe the wine and the service makes up for it all. They have 3 beautifully crafted wines and the host Pamela is warm, friendly and told us all about pigs.
I’m there like a bear anytime
Loved every second of our visit!!! Beautiful view, yummy wine and great service!!!
I was there in December 2010. I rate their white wine as in the top 10 white farms is RSA.
What is not to love about this farm? The view, the wine & the service are all superb!
What a place! What a Chardonnay! Worth driving up the long road. Beware when it wet though. Slippery as an eel in a bucket of snot.
The setting of this tasting room is magical – you see a little chapel on top of a hill for quite a while – we even stopped to take many pictures of it as we did not realize it was where we were going! It is a treat to visit – beautiful setting, beautiful view, funky art, great wines, getting dust on the car getting there (yes that’s fun for us city slickers!), fabulous wine, warm reception…..what more could you want. PS if you are in the area – don’t miss out on Creation wines while you are there – they make a great combo to visit on the same trip.
Wonderfull tasting very good wines and very nice tast room assistant and lovely art in the tast room with the most beautiful views of the mountains and valley towards Caledon.
Stunning setting, eclectic tasting room, well-informed host, fantastic wines… what’s not to love?
Wow! what a cool place! You see a chapel-like building on the hill and as you get closer you find out that this church from the outside is actually a Wine Lounge on the inside. I fell in love with the modern interior, the big bright paintings and the place.
Johan was super friendly and shared his knowledge and passion for wine while we sipped on the amazing wines. The Chardonnay is definitely one of the best in South Africa in my opinion and the Serenity is also delish.
Pity we could not stay longer and had to rush back to Cape Town. So gonna go back and just sit there, take in the beauty of the place and enjoy they lovely wines.
WOW the first Chardonnay I ever fell in love with…and the Sauvignon Blanc is not far behind…guess what is in the red blend..apparently only 2 people in the world know…
First time at the Wine Lounge itself having drunk bottles of the Chardonnay over the last couple years. Great to see their new home and the source of wines to come – bring on the Pinot Noir! The Sauv. was good but didn’t blow me away and the Serenity, despite being really interesting and very drinkable, didn’t quite live up to my expectations based on all the Chard I’ve drunk. The Chard though is amazing and may just be my favourite out of the whole country at present.
The Babylon mountain backdrop frames view of Ataraxia Wine Lounge from Hemel-en-Aarde Road. Tay Dall is currently exhibiting and her work is a modern contrast for chapel charm of Ataraxia’s tasting room. Ghost chairs, comfy sofas, white orchids and small branded spittoons. Total relaxation with glass of chardonnay.
Visited last week. Sauvignon Blanc was a delight to taste. Brought some back to Scotland with me. The “Wine Lounge” was a very relaxing environment to taste wines but it is a bit isolated. Staff knowledgeable and helpful.
