Arrived on a rain come shine day and it took me ages to actually find the tasting room. Perhaps I’m just daft but it would seem the signs need to be checked. Went inside and was the only person there. The young lady was very helpful and sweet and even although I opted to order the wines online rather she never charged me for the wines I tasted 3 in total. The PORT was the best of the trio! Beautiful Brandied type port with a beautiful rum and raisin nose and a velvety finish. Pricey at R240 a bottle though…

Arrived in the pouring rain and thoroughly enjoyed a pate and wine pairing alongside the welcoming roaring log fire. At R50 it appeared expensive for 3 wines and pates, but the quality and amount of pate served with great rye bread that really matched the wines served , was actually was reasonable.

Wine steward and youngman in tasting room having a hot conversasion may be I am in a different generation , but the service was realy up to shit. We were sitting outside on the the stoep and had to go inside to collect our next wine for tasting. Realy inviting especialy if your tasting fee is not waived after you bought wine. The Cabernet realy good pitty about the people in the tasting room.

The wines are okay. I was just very bored! No music playing in the background and the amount of info out the tasting room staff is absolutely dismal!

Disappointed in the service…could’ve just poured the wine myself as this was the extent of the information we got. Beautiful setting. Wines are average.

Forgot to mention – there is a tasting fee payable, but it is not waived against purchase. Disappointing.

Stopped here midweek. We were the only clients there and were sitting outside. The tasting room attendant was more interested in her conversation inside with her friend than she was in helping us. We got zero information on the wines, service was slow and she just poured the wine and left. Not what I’ve come to expect from properties owned or partially owned by Distell. Wines are fine.

I’ve always been a big fan of Alto Rouge, so I had to buy some for last night’s red blend tasting, and it didn’t dissapoint. Alto doesn’t have the biggest variety of wines, only serving up the Rouge, a Cab, a Shiraz and a Port. However, all of the wines are above average to good. The port is especially nice, however you have to fork out an extra R10 to taste it, but it’s worth it. The girl presenting the tasting was friendly and very helpful.
Enjoy and happy slurping.

Alto has a reputation of creating world class wines. The best part, they are not overly expensive.

Our host was friendly, but he did not really get a change to speak. We spotted some Durbanites at the other end of the counter and we started chatting to them. Verbal diaharee followed and it was fun to compare Cape Town with Durban.

The wine was good and we enjoyed the experience. Don’t forget to by a bottle of port when you visit them. It’s the only place where they sell their port.

What a great place. We travelled various wine farms for 2 days and can honestly say what a lovely estate. The wines were awsome and affordable and the guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful but not in your face which is also nice. Lets you taste and enjoy. Thanks Alto Estate you are great and we will definately return.
