However way you look at it, R 50 for two shockingly substandard wines is unacceptable. The hole of golf did nothing to change my sentiments.
Beautiful setting. Some lovely single-vineyard wines.
Very beautiful setting.
Open on Sundays: a big PLUS. R50 tasting fee for only 2 wines (one of which is a Sauvignon Blanc): a big big NEGATIVE. Friendly tasting room assistant. Beautiful views.
Mmmm… R50 tasting fee… no problem, but you only have 2 wines to taste? One of them an insipid second label entry level Sauvignon Blanc and the other ANOTHER overripe and jammy Cab. Other than getting ripped off, the tasting was decent. We spent all of 4 minutes there.
These are great wines, the Cab and Sauvignon Blanc is sublime and the Give me a Chance range is great value for money and all the profits go to the Childrens fund which help the local community.
great wines. The sauvignon blanc is awesome good balance of tropical fruit and grassy notes. cab is right up there as well.
Lila(host) was extremely friendy.
Only draw back is the R50 tasting fee ummmm is it worth it? for 2 wines?
I must admit, when we were informed at the gate that the tasting fee is R50 per person, I was a bit sceptical to enter. It was not my first visit to Alluvia. On our previous visit we had an awesome experience (and not tasting fee), so I though it’s worth another shot.
We were welcomed by Roe-hette. She was friendly and stylish and escorted us to the tasting room. They only had a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Sauvignon on tasting. I was a bit freaked out (again) by the tasting fee, but closed my eyes and tasted the Ilka Sauvignon Blanc. Suddenly Roe-hette pulled out another white wine. It was ironically called “Give me a chance” and I really enjoyed it. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon was tasty and well worth the investment.
Roe-hette was a fantastic host and we had a great experience once again. At the end we did not have to pay that R50 per person tasting fee. I purchase a bottle “Give me a chance.”
Don’t skip this wine estate. It’s worth the experience!
Stayed here – great place. They only make Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. They have 2 ranges, the lower one of which helps to support the local community. The wine manager is very helpful and helped me to plan my next 2 days wine tasting with lunch stops
