Annandale Cavalier 2001 was only one of the 2 available wines at the moment, but what a lekker sip of pressed and fermented grapes.

A alley of trees guided us on the wine farm and to the “Ring the bell”-Sign. Let’s say it was truly a bell to toll. If somebody sounds a bell like that you immediately feel like calling in for church day and a sacramental wine tasting.

But let’s focus on the wines. The Cavalier is an out-standing good blend of red with a 36 month-developed wooden backbone. A wine that instantly makes you forget all thoughts of save your money on such a steal for 85 ZAR.

The second wine was a Cabernet Sauvignon of an undeniable truthful character, if someone knows about Cab there won’t be much to say except a pleased facial expression.

Sadly I’ve to say that none of the wines was more than average. I couldn’t understand why the prices were far from realistic – compared to the quality of the wines. Funny that we bought a few bottles of the red blend for a truly reasonable price, what was in my opinion the most drinkable wine. I have to admit that the flagship wine also caught my interest – but wasn’t worth harvesting my wallet for it.

In the end there was one thing that made me never coming back. After asking carefully if they have any Pinotage or Cape-Blend containing the truly South African grape. The short answer was: “We don’t grow Pinotage, because we really dislike it!”. Eish

We left the wine farm with our fist raised in the air – proclaiming: “We are proudly South African.”

A place of it’s own – I experienced wines which stand up to the highest expectations. Every single wine tastes like the true passion that wine-maker Nick Gebers puts into his masterpieces.

The Post House Winery was so far my one and only wine experience where I was blown away by every single wine. Even the 2 blends(blueish-black and blueish-white) will indulge your taste-buds and soon become your favorite everyday-drinking wine.

Don’t miss a real down-to-earth wine experience.

Views = fantastic, Restaurant = posh, Wine tasting = fail, Wine quality = not more than average.

Absolutely disappointing tasting experience. If you dressed like a casual wine taster keen for a easy-going wine tour you will find yourself surrounded by fancy nancies at the neighboring tables. Your wines(5) will be served to you on a plate one after another – not mentioning the everlasting time periods in between while your waiter is busy with his/her usual restaurant duties. The only reason for not leaving after the second glass is probably the 50 Rand you have to pay for your tasting. In my opinion it’s wasted time if you only want to taste a couple of wines.

Absolutely worth a visit. I agree with my fellow reviewers. The range of available wines will grow over the next years. So far all their wines are of very good quality. There is no doubt that a winery owned by an old french wine-maker family knows how to produce premium wines.

The wines are very well-made – you have to watch their Premium Range Pinotage – it will rise like a star. Even the secondary range Pinotage(Fortress Hill) is a good value for money and out-runs the typical well-priced rusty nails. Speaking of well-priced wines – I have to mention the taste-buds-melting Late Harvest.

The atmosphere of the tasting room is indeed a bit rustic, but you go there to taste the wines and not to judge about the personal preference of interior design
