Jono the owner is the perfect example of a garagiste because he really does make the wines in His garage.
The labels are done by his son and he makes 5 wineswhich are characterised by excessive use of staves and as a result some are somewhat unbalanced or over textured.
however the experience is fantastic and worth the appointment

Found the owner Willie Chilling and dilling on a sunny Sunday afternoon
he talked us through the wines and gave us a little bit more insight about the Sandies glen wine ward. His view from his tasting room is breathtaking and his wines compliment the wonderfull view.
Its absolutely worth the drive

Philip the wine maker also makes solo wines gave us a very informative tasting of his 5 wines of which i totally enjoyed the witklip Chard.
The tasting room and cellar is still a work in progress but Phillip is awesome and has a wealth of Knowledge

Made an appointment when we where 5 minutes away from the under construction tasting room and cellar and fortunately Craig was looking for an excuse to get away from doing admin.
He first took us through his elemental bob range and then there after barrells of spookfontein wines
Some very exciting wines when they are finally ready and the merlot was stand out.
It’s worth driving up the treacherous road to taste.

After the long and treacherous drive on gravel we finally got to the tasting room and found Nico(winemaker) and Jan(german intern) in tasting room.

Nico:”how can i help you”
Uncle Tom and Drew:”we would like to wine taste”
(pause a bit of silence and hesitancy)
Nico(looks at Jan as if to give him instructions):”right ok its R200 to wine taste 4 wines is that ok?”
Uncle tom and Drew(a bit dismayed)” Umm I included your wine in a varietal tasting at Robertos restaurant about a month ago and was really interested in the Syrah for our wine list. I did however mention to Katrin that i only list once i have visited the farm.”?

An hour and a half later we sitting on the table with about 8 wines open after an informative and very personal tasting with Nico and Jan which began with some Geography and ended with some 2005′s and 2006′s open
The wines range as a whole is right up there with some top traditional favourites. Just feel that if it R200 to wine taste then hopefully you get to take the leftovers home.
However we got our wine tasting for free

Dutch owned new winery in Devon Valley. The owner built it to supply wines to his international network.
The wine maker Dustin is young and vibrant and and speaks with huge enthusiasm about his wines. And yes they joined the band wagon and made a white Pinotage. The wines are young and full of potential particularly the Chardonney as for the white pInotage… ITs the same as Red Pinotage you either love it or you hate it. Personally I would not buy it but i would drink it.

We where fortunate to find Herman the wine maker in the tasting room/workshop/coffee shop.
HE gave us a tasting of 5 wines including some older vintages and the whole focus was on just drinking the wine and no awards talk etc.
The wines are above par and the setting as well is worth the trip
Thanks Herman

The drive up to the tasting room is not really inviting and from the outside one could be forgiven for thinking that its just a plain old warehouse or house.
The tasting room itself is simple and not exciting at all.
The wine maker/manager Jacques is young and very excited about his ports and rightly so they have 2 wonderfull ports and great value for money red.
Worth the Visit

Checked out the tasting fees for the MCC and Champagne and instead opted to chill and have 2 glasses of bubbly. The Pinot noir/Chard(jean Michel) and the Aclemee(semillion)
The Aclemee was refreshing, crisp and delightful, the Hean Michel was rather Normal.
Hendrik took some time off from his busy day to talk us through the wines.
