After spending an excellent night in Prince Albert, we left on the way towards Meiringspoort and came across this wine farm. Mrs le Grange was very proud to show and let us taste her son Diederik’s wines. Pinotage/Shiraz blend was a nice everyday wine – also Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Next stop was Bergwater
Hill cottage on the Tanagra Estate was our home for the weekend. Anette gave us a great tasting of their wines and their Grappa (Marc) and Eau de Vie de Vin.
A great tasting was had with friends. wines okay
They have turned this wine farm into an almost ‘all day venue’ – with excellent wine tastings, pairings, etc and then there is the beer and biltong tasting, pizzeria and Grappa, fine dining and glass blowing… and a good view thrown in. Love the Flagship Syrah.
Arrived at opening time and they were ready for our group at a long table outside. John was great with his knowledge of the wines and the history of the farm, etc. Even had a short cellar tour afterwards. Wines were impressive – looked in at the restaurant – fine dining by the looks of things.
We were greeted by a charming hostess and were seated outside on the veranda. The presentation was great as well the wines. The history of the farm dates back to 1698. Lovely way to spend a Tuesday morning !
Excellent garden, restaurant and small wine tasting area – wine okay – food excellent
The welcome, knowledgable staff and setting were great – wines okay, SMV my favourite. thanx Ivonia.
Great welcome and were lucky to taste their Chard Brut MCC – just released. Excellent wines.
Popped in here over the Wacky WIne Weekend to see how things were progressing – a new tasting room is being developed and should be an asset to the Robertson Valley once completed. They have Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and a Shiraz – all great wines.
I agree with Vernon below – great place, great wines and hospitality
This farm must have one of the best views from its tasting room. Three wines to taste which are great – made by the winemaker at Constantia Glen. They also have a spa – by appointment.
With the tasting room staff on leave – we had a tasting by the winemaker himself. Nice wines at good prices.
Even if you just pop in for the view- it is worth it. All organic wines made here – interesting wines – funky second label: Green Shebeen!
Met the winemaker busy at work – but not too much trouble to travel to open up the tasting room where we tasted his wines. Also tasted from the tanks which were in the blazing heat – 37degrees!
Definitely the most unique tasting room – on a jetty! Using the sea to cool the water around the steel tanks, during the wine making process – clever idea. Wonderful hospitality as well
Popped in just before closing time to taste their latest vintages – wines were good. The staff seemed to have issues behind the counter with each other – leaving other guests (tourists) guessing as to whether they were going to be served or not.
This place is a must if you are visiting the Elgin area. The hospitality was as great as their Deli’s wares was! Great place to just chill over lunch time – thanx for the excellent SB.
Arrived at opening time, greeted by the three dogs while taking in the fantastic view. Tasted the three wines – Lacy is a promising red blend.
Great setting – visited during the Helderberg Festival. Passionate about their wines.
A nice place to taste ‘real bubbly’ !
Interesting place – in the middle of the City. Did a quick tasting – would like to go back with a couple of friends – will be back! . Loved the Grenache Blanc and Petit Verdot.
The Bistro was great – but pop into the wine tasting area before, to check out what wine you will be drinking with your meal. Kylix is a nice Cab,Shiraz, Merlot blend
In 2010 the Erasmus family celebrated 200 uninterrupted years on the farm Wandsbeck. We phoned ahead because we were running a bit late and when we arrived we were greeted like long lost friends by Danie and his wife Petro. Had a great tasting and were treated to some extras as well as a tour of their still and cellar. Sumsare (Erasmus backwards!) is the wine label – look out for these wines.
We arrived to get warm welcomed by the staff and then the owner Ruud de Clercq proceeded to give us his WInemaking 101 presentation, which was great for our not-so-in-the-know-about-wine friends. Shiraz 2007 was excellent. And do try his apricot wine – most interesting.
