Such a special wine farm. They have a wonderful musuem full of Cape History and a wine tasting venue attached. The Fyndraai Restuarnt makes authentic Cape Cuisine and we had a superb meal there on a Food and Wine Pairing occasion.
The picnics are the highlight. The basket for 2 people is such value for money with more than enough food, water and a bottle of Lekkerwijn for R135 for 2 people. The riverside and forest setting is spectacular!!!!!
They have various fascinating tours that one can do ( archaeology, walking tour, social histort, food and wine pairing) well worth a look at.
The community spirit is one of the distinctive parts components of this farm – the staff and owner work together to make it prospur and the farm has such an authentic feel which many so lack.
We were at Zevenwacht for Valentines Day and were a group of 7 adults and 3 kids. I hadnt been in about 5 years and was keen to see what they had to offer as we have been sampling many wine estates restaurants and picnics of late.
The wine estate has sprawled and the landscaping is really lovely. There were many people there but just the sight of the Manor House and her lawns and all the serene trees and greenery just set the mood.
We sat and sampled the wines first and all had our take on Zevenwacht’s offering. I found the Chenin Blanc very easy on the palate and a great “anytime” wine. We had organised 2 and a half baskets and went to fetch them – the only part of the day I could find fault with, was the delay in getting the baskets. It felt like forever and was very slow but as mentioned the estate was busy.
We had a lovely spot on the lawn and despite the fact that there were many other couples, everyone relaxed and just enjoyed the day thoroughly.
The baskets are magnificant and contain appropriate picnic fare and on top of it all the portions are incredibly generous and its tasty grub!!!
The kids had a super time – between feeding the ducks and playing with the local Labrador walking about, they also went and played on the jungle gym kids area. There is plenty of lawn to mess around on as well as other kids to amuse themselves with.
I know there is a Braai Option-Picnic that the estate offer but this was sold-out when we rang to book. Apparently it comes fully kitted out and is incredibly popular so maybe an idea for the future. For those wanting refinement – there is the Manor House Restaurant, wine tasting and of course the Spa on the estate property.
A fabulous day out all-in-all and we will certainly not stay away for 5 years again and will be back soon!!
