Some nice whites. The service was a bit impersonal as it was a bit busy and the hostess was not a wealth of information. I have eaten at the Country Kitchen restaurant a few times and the food is nice but not spectacular. The view from the main hotel and restaurant Mange Tout is excellent
We went past this farm as part of an amazing race. Cannot say enough good things about the host Daphne. Friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent quality wines. A great experience and highly recommended
Nice friendly service and vibe. Excellent MCC
Boat trip was great and was pleasantly surprised by the quiality of the wines, especially the Shiraz. Worth a visit.
Completely unhelpfull assistant. They might as well have had a machine that dispenses the tasting hung on the wall, that way at least you would get get up an get your next tasting before sunset. I also thought the wines were poor quality. Very dissapointed
Great farm with very helpfull assistant and superb wines, especially the Life from Stone
Went during the open day and was very well received by our host who was very friendly in explaining the wines. Value for money I would have to say I prefered the Z. The every day Diversity was very reasonably priced but was too sharp for me
Great farm. Had a well mannered and informative host and the wines were great quality and not to overpriced
Nice modern tasting room with great views. Unfortunatley I thought the wines were very average though for the price. Bit dissapointed
Excellent farm. Took them a bit long to get interested in us but after they did I thought that the quality of the wines for the price was very good. By far the best Malbec I have tasted in SA and the SMG and Lapa Cab Sav were excellent. The fronteir and shiraz at R65 is a great value for money bottle.
Excellent farm. Knowledgeable assistants, excellent setting and excellent quality wines
Very nice farm and setting. Enjoyed the Sav Blanc a lot but unfortunatley not much else on the wine side
Very nice setting with nice host. Great wines but not 100% sure if they are worth R300. We bought a bottle of the 2006 of their non flagship brand which we thought tasted great and was R130. Olive tasting was a nice change
Excellent quality wines. loved the Pinotage and Merlot but enjoyed almost all of them. The assistant though did not really do these wines justice. He was nice enough but just completely uninfomative
Have always enjoyed their whites and think that their standard whites are excellent value for money but really enjoyed their upmarket Rhinofields whites even more. Did not particularly like the reds. The experience at the farm was very poor though. We went on the public holiday and was told that the tasting room closes at 13;30 and that they stop people comming in after 13;00. This makes sense as it gives tasters an opportunity to come in before 1pm and relax and not be that rushed as well as allowing the staff to close to 13;30. However to my dismay, when we arrived at 12:50 we were told by an impatient host that they close the doors at 13:00 and therefore we can only tast 1 or two wines. When I told them that it says you close at 13:30 they agreed and grungingly served us a full quota of tastes. This is specifically what the rule above is meant to avoid but we were rudely greeted by someone who just wanted a reason to go home early. Left a realy sour taste in the mouth.
Very informative host at the wine tasting. The wines were excellent value for money with good quality. Thought the tasting room lacked a little by almost being on top of a packed restaurant
Nice tasting room at the Pasterie. Hosts were infomative and friendly and the quality of the wines were very good. Enjoyed the barrel fermented chardonnay and the Eight Feet the most but the shiraz was also good.
Assistant was not interested enough. Quality was average although very reasonably priced
I enjoyed the tasting at this farm and in particular liked the 08 Shiraz. It was not busy so we were looked after fairly well
A great setting with great views. Our assistant Bongi was absolutley brilliant and was very informative and helpfull. I am sad to say that struggled with the wines though as given the quality of the service I really wanted to like them and thought they were a bit overpriced. The cab is well known and won lots of awards so maybe it is just my simple taste.
I enjoyed this farm. Service was pleasant if not exceptional and I enjoyed the quality of the wines.
Nice farm with friendly enough assistant. Wines did not stand out although I enjoyed the Shiraz a lot
Very friendly service and quality setting. Wines were dissapointing though. Seemed to lacked substance in my opinion
One of my favourites Sav Blanc’s. Good service and nice setting
After having a very pleasant experience the first time I went to Delaire a few months ago I decided to take a few visitors from the UK back there recently. On the positive side, I think that the tasting room has great views and quality wines. However I need to highlight the poor experience that I recently had.
1) We rushed to get there in time as we had read in the book that the tasting room closes at 5. We arrived at 4:32 on Sat to be told, “Sorry, we stop serving people at 4:30 and you are 2 minutes late” When I highlighted the fact that I had overseas visitors and that we were only 2 minutes over I was coldly told “that is our policy”. Well it is my policy not to buy wine from or take visitors back to farms that do not go out of their way for their customers. If you stop serving at 4:30 then change the book to 4:30.
2) Our cold and disinterested host then stated. “You can still buy a bottle of wine and you can still have a glass of wine by the glass”. Not realising that these suggestions were mutually exclusive I thought that this was a good idea and bought a bottle expecting to share the bottle between the five people but was then told that I cannot drink the wine that I just bought there and had to order by the glass. I was shocked to find that my R80 bottle of wine was being charged at R40 PER GLASS in the same wine tasting room totalling R200 for our group. Now maybe this is just me but this is daylight robbery and it disgusts me.
I am extremely disappointed at the attitude at this farm and will not take visitors back. Many other nice farms to choose from.
