Hallo Lyn, I see you’ve read “How to make friends and influence people”. Yet another reason to recommend people to stay far far away from Groot Constantia. You are the personification of all that is wrong with this former jewel in the South African wine landscape’s crown.
Looks beautiful from the outside, pity everything was locked up tight on Friday the 17th June at 3 o’clock. They clearly care nothing for the people who drive all the way there to visit.
At first the farm looks deserted because you approach from the “wrong”side. Expect beautiful views, interesting old cellar and uncomplicated easy drinking wines. Love the Muskadel.
No expense has been spared in the new tasting room/wine cellar – still a little impersonal, but that should change soon. Wines are excellent as expected from Neil Ellis – at surprisingly reasonable prices.
Wow, we were blown away my the trouble Helgard went to: cellar tour, barrel tasting – nothing was too much trouble. The wines are fantastic; a must visit!
Andrea made our trip worthwhile even though the reason for our visit (5 star MCC) was sold out. She also followed up with an email confirming she’ll let us know when the new vintage is available. Now that is service!

WOW this wine is more than the sum of its parts; being made in the vineyard! friendly people and great wine.
Friendly informative tasting. MCC was a very good surprise.
Fun tasting done by Willem Wentzel, especially early on a Saturday morning! White wines were the biggest surprise – try them all.
3 ranges and styles to choose from. The Proprietor’s Blend and the Ormonde Chardonnay impressed. very friendly service.
Old school red wines. Friendly service. Very pretty with all the birds lounging around.
Very friendly staff who gave us a good rundown of the wine range. Tasted the premium range and it’s good value for money. Love both Muscadels.
Beautiful boutique farm, wines quite drinkable & very reasonable
Feel the history of the estate as you enter.Wines are quite good. Loved the Reserve Chardonnay & Reserve Pinot Noir. Well worth the visit.
Very friendly tasting staff & the wines are some of the better “easy drinking” options out there. Bistro serves great food.
Friendly tasting experience, wines average except the Pinot Noir showing some potential
Friendly tasting experience, wines average but cannot wait for the new wine maker’s first vintage
A must to visit to even to just talk to the owner/winemaker. The Shiraz is fantastic. Ask about the pigs…

Well rounded elegant wines at reasonable prices (especially for Franschhoek). Well worth a visit.

4 star luxury in the middle of nowhere. Wines are quaffable, made from still young vines. Winemaker/owner is very enthusiastic & friendly
